While the fifth-gen takes control, the fourth-gen City would continue selling alongside the new sedan.
The all-new Honda City has been launched in the country at a starting price of Rs 10.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The fifth-generation Honda sedan has grown in proportions and promises more cabin space than its predecessor. Just like its dimensions, it has grown in price as well – it is almost a lakh costlier than the fourth-gen City.

Engine and Specifications
The new City gets a BS6 compliant 1.5-litre i-VTEC DOHC naturally-aspirated petrol engine which produces max power of 121PS at 6600rpm and max torque of 145Nm at 1750rpm. The new engine generates 2bhp more power than its previous version thanks to twin-cam setup, which improves combustion efficiency, lowers emissions and reduces friction. The petrol motor can be had with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed CVT. It returns decent fuel economies of 17.8kmpl and 18.4kmpl with manual and CVT transmissions, respectively.
The diesel engine of new City remains the same – 1.5-litre powertrain, which generates top power of 100PS and 200Nm. Paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, it delivers a mileage of 24.10kmpl.
Dimensions
The 2020 Honda City is likely to surprise you with its increased dimensions. Here are the measurements.
Length | 4549mm |
Width | 1748mm |
Height | 1489mm |
Wheelbase | 2600mm |
Boot space | 506-liters |
With those dimensions, the City becomes the longest and the widest sedan in its segment beating Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz and Volkswagen Vento.
2020 Honda City Features
The new City gets segment-first safety and creature comfort features such as full LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, lane watch camera, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) with Agile Handling Assist (AHA), remote engine start (CVT only) and Honda Connect with Telematics Control Unit (TCU) which offers 32 connected features and Alexa remote capability (first in India). Other features include 7.0-inch colour MID, auto AC, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, electric sunroof, paddle shifters and several others.
Rivals
The new City continues to rival with its old foes – new Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz and Volkswagen Vento. However, the catch this time is the pricier tag of the new City. The trick to sell older City alongside the 2020 City will keep the buyers hooked to the City badge- nice move Honda.
