    The country’s leading passenger carmaker, Maruti Suzuki has slipped in the facelifted avatar of the highly admired Swift hatchback. The 2021 Maruti Swift is priced between Rs 5.73-8.41 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The updated Swift now features tweaked styling and carries a more powerful petrol engine under-hood. In terms of price increase against the outgoing model, the new Swift prices have gone up by Rs 15,000-24,000 depending on various trims. The third-generation Swift hatch witnesses minor cosmetic changes on the outside and limited amends inside the cabin.

    Engine & Specifications

    The mid-life cycle update of Swift brings in a more advanced and powerful K-series Dualjet petrol engine that produces 90hp of power compared to the 83hp in the predecessor model. The 1.2L petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 90hp at 6000rpm and peak torque of 113Nm at 4400rpm. The engine is mated with a gearbox choice of a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed AMT gearbox. Besides the add-on of power, the engine is now more fuel-efficient than ever.

    Mileage

    The 2021 Swift dons an ARAI figure of 23.20kmpl when driven with the manual transmission version and delivers a handsome 23.76kmpl with AMT gearbox. Interestingly, the efficiency numbers of the outgoing Swift stand at 21.21kmpl. Moreover, the fuel savings will be further increased with the feature of a start/stop function.

    Exterior

    The exteriors see few changes in the new Swift which include a tweaked front grille with chrome accented slat for premium appeal, while at the rear no major updates and be witnessed. The exterior paint scheme includes three dual-tone options on the Swift top end. And these comprise of Arctic white body with a black roof, Solid Fire shade with a black roof and a Metallic Midnight blue with a white roof.

    Interior

    The inside of the Swift has fresh fabric upholstery and incorporation of a host of equipment. The highlights of the VXi trim features a new audio head unit with feather-touch controls, Bluetooth, USB and AUX-in connectivity. Further, the top-spec comes loaded with coloured MID, powered ORVMs, cruise control, 7.0-inch touchscreen, rear view camera, keyless entry and go, auto climate control and more. The advance system also provides live updates of the traffic updates through the Smartplay Studio mobile app.

    Meanwhile, the safety gear includes Electronic Stability Program (ESP), rear view camera, hill hold assist (AMT only), ABS+EBD, dual airbags, pre-tensioner and force limiter seat belts, ISOFIX and others.

    Competitors

    Under its price range and segment, the facelifted 2021 Maruti Swift competes with the likes of Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Ford Figo, Renault Triber and others.
