On consumer’s demand, Mercedes-Benz has finally revealed the all-new GLA SUV on a digital platform ‘Mercedes me’. The new model will be equipped with additional features, more cabin space, and a revised powertrain option.
India’s largest luxury carmaker Mercedes Benz on Tuesday, 25th May, 2021 launched the all-new version of its entry-level compact SUV GLA at Rs 42.10 – Rs 46.7 lakh along with a top-of-the-line AMG variant at Rs 57.3 lakh. (Ex-showroom, Delhi prices mentioned).
The launch of the SUV had to be postponed by over a month from April to May end as a result of disturbance caused by the pandemic. Though many areas of India remain under various sorts of lockdown, Mercedes Benz said it had obtained increasing demand from customers and the launching is an attempt to sustain business continuity and encourage the financial sustenance of its retail community.
Martin Schwenk, MD, and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India explained – “The health and security of our employees remain our priority and we’re contributing in our means to encourage the neighbourhood around us. At precisely the same time sustaining the health of the business, supporting our community and the whole ecosystem are crucial components of managing this catastrophe for an economic level and helping us maintain a more positive prognosis for the near future. We’re standing strong with our 2021 plan with no substantial alterations at this point. But there may be some flaws anticipated in our product introductions because of the marketplace limitations and thoughts.”
Engine and Specifications
Underneath the hood, the conventional GLA can be obtained with both petrol as well in diesel engine choices. The petrol engine is a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged unit generating 163 bhp of maximum power and 250 Nm of maximum torque. It comes paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated gearbox and is only available in the front-wheel-drive (FWD) design.
The diesel engine equipped in the newest GLA is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged powertrain which develops maximum power of 190 bhp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. It is accompanied by an 8-speed dual-clutch automated gearbox and may be obtained in both FWD design or Mercedes’ 4 Matic all-wheel-drive design.
Last, we’ve got the performance-oriented AMG GLA 35 4 Matic that has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 306 bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated gearbox. Mercedes-Benz offers the newest GLA having an 8-year warranty on engine and transmission, along with this section leading 3-year comprehensive automobile warranty.
Mercedes-Benz GLA Rivals
The GLA will be competing against BMW X1, Audi Q3, and Volvo XC40. The competition will increase further up when the second-generation Audi Q3 will be launched.
The company confirmed a 34% increase in earnings in the first quarter of 2021 by selling 3,193 units, compared to sale of 2,386 units during the same period in the year 2020. The car maker is targeting a solid double-digit increase this year on the back of a reduced base from 2021 plus a bucket of 15 brand new launches. Last year, it had endured a close 43% slump in sales figure at 7,893 units – its lowest yearly earnings tally since 2012 but had been ahead of its competitors such as BMW, Audi, Jaguar Land Rover, and Volvo, and stands as the industry leader in the luxury car division for its sixth consecutive year.
