2022 Auto Expo has been delayed until further notice by the organizers, to ensure safety of exhibitors and visitors. This decision has been made in lieu of the increasing number of Covid-19 cases across India. Covid-19 cases have sky-rocketed in multiple parts of India, forcing SIAM to take precautions. Auto Expo is one of the largest automotive events in India and was originally set to take place in February. It is more of an occasion where various carmakers hold exhibitions along with stakeholders and visitors and journalists could cover the event. It is a place for enthusiasts to learn about upcoming vehicles.
The apex industry body said, “It is in this context that the Indian automobile industry and SIAM recognizes the inherent risks in organizing the Auto Expo due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the apprehensions of a possible third wave.” “There is uncertainty around how COVID-19 would develop in the coming months and at the same time organizing Auto Expo would need a lead time of preferably a year. Also, Auto Expo is like a festival of celebration for the Indian automobile industry and we look forward to receiving maximum people with no fear of the spread of infection,” it added.
The postponement of this prestigious show is to ensure the safety of the exhibitors, visitors and all stakeholders involved in the Expo, says SIAM. SIAM further said that the chances of COVID-19 spreading in a B2C show like the Auto Expo is extremely high, as it is visited by large crowds, and maintaining social distancing would be difficult.
It has therefore decided to postpone the Auto Expo for now. The new date for the 2022 Auto Expo motor show will be finalized later this year, taking into consideration the COVID-19 situation and the event’s alignment with the OICA calendar of global auto shows.
