5 New SUVs to Launch in India in 2022

Indian market is ripe with SUVs from top-selling carmakers making it one of the most desired segments in recent years. Hence, it’s no surprise to find some hot SUVs ready to be launched in the new year of 2022. Let’s check out 5 of the SUVs that are kindling excitement among car enthusiasts.

1. Jeep Meridian

Expected Launch: March 2022

Expected Price: Starting from Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom)

Revealed earlier in Brazil as the Commander, this Jeep model is expected to be unveiled as the Meridian in India in 2022. Already sparking interest from the circulating spy shots of its test runs, this new 7-seater is based on the Compass with some rear design tweaks and new tech. It will also get ADAS while being powered by the same 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine and 2.0-litre diesel engines that power the Compass.

2. 2022 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

Expected Launch: August 2022

Expected Price: Starting from Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom)

As a successful sub-4 metre SUV, the new Brezza will receive significant changes in its design with a newly-designed grille, tweaked dual-beam projector headlamps, revised bumper with a wider air intake, a faux skid plate and new fog lamp assembly with blacked-out bezels.

The 2022 Vitara Brezza will continue to run on the 105PS 1.5-litre petrol engine, paired with a mild-hybrid system. We can also expect a stronger 48V hybrid system instead of the existing 12V mild-hybrid setup.

Interior upgrades will include a bigger touchscreen, updated instrument cluster, and a Maruti-first single-pane sunroof.

3. 2022 Mahindra Scorpio

Expected Launch: April 2022

Expected Price: Starting from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom)

Mahindra’s much-anticipated launch after its very successful launch of the XUV700 is its new generation Scorpio. From the looks of the test mule spotted multiple times on our roads, it appears to retain a similar silhouette to the current version Scorpio. It looks bigger and might receive slight styling updates on the outside as well as new tech upgrades on the inside. The new Scorpio gets a premium cabin loaded with a bigger touchscreen infotainment system, roof-mounted speakers, and a single-pane sunroof.

The engine options will be similar to that of XUV700’s: a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines although detuned and, paired with a 6-speed manual and optional 6-speed torque converter gearbox. Some select variants will also likely be offered with a four-wheel drivetrain and a low-range gearbox along with multiple off-road modes.

Rivals: Hyundai CretaKia Seltos, VW Taigun, Tata Harrier, and MG Hector.

4. Facelifted Audi Q7

Expected Launch: January 2022

Expected Price: Starting From Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom)

Audi is launching a facelift version of its Q7 after the successful launch of its facelifted Q5. This new Q7 has adopted more SUV-like looks than its previous version. Facelifted Q7 will only be offered with a petrol option for an engine that churns out 340 PS. It is a 3.0-litre petrol motor combined with a 48v mild-hybrid system under the hood paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drivetrain.

Rivals: Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, and Volvo XC90.

5. 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Expected Launch: October 2022

Expected Price: Starting From Rs 75 lakh (ex-showroom)

The Grand Cherokee, in its fifth iteration, is expected to be available in India as a CKD model. This is a first for this Jeep model in the Indian market. The car’s outside comes with a more evolved style from its previous versions and a cabin that is not missing much in terms of luxury or technology.

The Grand Cherokee has the following engine options available in the global market:

  • A 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine generating 297 PS
  • A 5.7-litre V8 petrol engine producing 362 PS
  • A new 2-litre four-cylinder petrol plug-in-hybrid engine

Rivals: Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, and the face lifted Audi Q7
