BMW X1 Price - Images, Colours & Reviews - CarWaleThe BMW X1 20i Tech Edition was unveiled on Thursday for Rs 43,00,000 (ex-showroom). BMW Group Plant Chennai is where the SUV is assembled. The BMW X1 Tech Edition was launched in India to complement the X1 range. The X1 Tech Edition gets some additional available equipment over the X1 family.

What’s new in the tech edition?

X1 Tech Edition has the most significant update to its equipment list, as its name clearly suggests. Its infotainment screen is 10.25 inches larger than that of the conventional X1. There are other models of the X1 that have 8.8-inch infotainment screens, which is a tad small by modern standards in a luxury compact SUV.

With its high-resolution 10.25-inch screen and touch functionality, the screen also retains the rotary iDrive controller on the centre console. Additionally, BMW added a new head-up display, wireless charging functionality, and a 205W Hi-Fi Sound System to the X1 as part of the Tech Edition update.

X1 Tech Edition comes with no cosmetic upgrades over its other versions. Although the 18-inch alloy wheels have been visually updated, it retains the same design. A pair of colour options – Alpine White and Phytonic Blue – are offered on the Tech Edition, while the interior features black upholstery.

Here’s what has carried over:

The X1 Tech Edition looks almost identical to the facelifted model that was launched in India earlier last year. It is characterized by a single piece kidney grille, as well as sleek, sweptback LED headlamps. Flowing lines are evident on the side profile and the front and rear bumpers of this car give it an air of sportiness.

The interior design of the X1 goes back to the earlier BMW cars, aside from the aforementioned features. This is where the X1 now starts to show its age. The buttons on the dashboard, analogue instrument cluster, and even the steering wheel look quite dated, and the materials do not feel as luxurious as the materials used in BMW’s newer models. A large panoramic sunroof, six-colour ambient lighting, ornately carved wood trim on the doors, electric heated front seats with memory functions, and wireless Apple CarPlay are just a few of the standard features.

Safety features include six airbags, Attentiveness Assistance, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), electric parking brake with auto hold, etc.

The X1 Tech Edition is exclusively equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 192 horsepower and 280 Newton-meters of torque. It combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with a 7-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission. The seven-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission performs smooth, almost imperceptible gearshifts. Using the drive experience control switch, the driver can change the driving character of the vehicle by choosing between different modes – ECO PRO, COMFORT, SPORT. A steering wheel-mounted paddle shifter and launch control are also available. The front wheels are the only ones receiving drive. The 2.0-litre diesel options on the X1 are not available with the Tech Edition.

Safety:

The new BMW X1 comes loaded with BMW Safety technologies such as six airbags, Attentiveness Assistance, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), electric parking brake with auto hold, side-impact protection, electronic vehicle immobilizer and crash sensor, ISOFIX child seat mounting and integrated emergency spare wheel under the load floor.
