With its unconventional design and spacious interiors, the French SUV looks to trouble the rivals Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass.
The French seem to have learnt from their countrymate, Renault. While it was the Duster that helped Renault establish its brand in India, the Citroen looks to repeat the same success with the C5 Aircross SUV. Although the Duster was not its first product, Citroen has decided to launch the C5 Aircross SUV as its first product. A calculative move, isn’t it? Seems so. The C5 isn’t just another product. It has a lot of hopes and aspirations riding on it. If it tastes success, Citroen will be able to create its brand value in one of the world’s most competitive auto market.
Launched on April 7, 2021, the Citroen C5 Aircross is priced at Rs 29.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). If you are surprised by the price, do note that these are introductory prices that will revise in the future. It is available in two variants – Feel and Shine. Powering both the trims is a 2.0-litre diesel engine, which offers adequate power. The C5 Aircross gets a plethora of comfort and convenient features even in its base trim. It gets a strong standard safety net too. So, does the flagship Citroen SUV makes it worth considering over its competitors. Let’s check out.
Never seen before. That’s the first thing you’ll think when you glance over the Citroen C5 Aircross. The unconventional design language is characterised by a multi-layered front facia which gets seamlessly incorporating the chevron logo in the centre. The two-chrome strips feature the LED DRLs. The grille is flanked by LED projector headlamps. While the air intakes are placed on the bumper, the faux boxy inlets are placed on the lower side. Fog lamps find a place at the extreme ends. The front design is certainly very busy, which may or may not appeal to buyers.
Moving to the sides, the blocky elements on the body cladding add an SUV statement. The design is suave at the profile with chrome lining on the window frame.
The blackened A, B, C and D-pillar looks nice. The use of silver accents at the front bumper, roof rails and side moulding highlight its premium quotient. The diamond-cut 18-inch alloys get chic styling.
The rear lends a very sophisticated appeal to the Citroen C5 Aircross. With 3D LED elements, the tail lamps are certainly the highlight of the French SUV. Besides, you get two faux air exhausts and a sporty rear spoiler.

|Wheelbase||2730 mm||2636 mm||2670 mm|
The C5 Aircross SUV beats its competition in all the aspects of dimensions and that too, quite comprehensively. However, the pricing almost puts it in direct rivalry with seven-seater SUVs.
The quirkiness of the exterior travels inside as well. The design elements are quite different but refreshing. The dash seems to suit more to the left-hand drive set-up. The blocky design element is seen inside too with squarish blocks on the seats. It gets unconventional aircon vents, uniquely designed steering and a sophistically placed gear lever. The use of soft-touch plastics gives the cabin a premium feel.
It’s one of the spacious cars in its segment which can easily seat three passengers abreast at the rear. There is enough legroom, knee room and shoulder room for all occupants. Unlike other cars, it gets an individual seat with recline and adjustable trait to each one of them. They get an adjustable headrest too. So, there’s no fighting over who will squeeze in the middle seat. However, when two will sit at the rear, they will miss the armrest. No armrest in a 30 lakh car! Moreover, there is adequate cushioning which support longer journeys.
There are plenty of storage spaces in the car along with a massive 580-litre of boot space with all seats up.

The Citroen C5 Aircross SUV is packed with an impressive feature list and the comfort of the vehicle is unmatched too. Looks could be subjective as some might feel the design to be overdone. However, it does lend you a unique design on the road and, of course, a unique identity. The engine is agile too and offers excellent power delivery with its 8-speed automatic gearbox. In a nutshell, it appears to be a good package until you come to the price. Since it is assembled in India and not made from scratch, it incurs heavy excise duties which make its pricing very steep.
