The Grand i10 Nios might look polarising in design. However, has it enough to make it to your garage? Let’s find out.
The South Korean automaker has championed the art of making good looking cars with a comfortable cabin, top-notch quality along with decent fuel economy. At a time when Maruti Suzuki was making merry in the late 90s, Hyundai managed to not only set its foot in India but also carve its own niche. It offered most of the aspects of a Maruti Suzuki car topped with a premium quotient.
In the similar league, the next-generation Hyundai Grand i10 with the name of Grand i10 Nios was introduced in India on 20th August 2019. The automaker continued to sell the second-generation Grand i10 alongside the latest iteration. Something it did with its predecessor as well – i10 and Grand i10 were sold in parallel. The Nios looks contemporary but the 2-star global NCAP rating is a setback for its aspirants. Well, let’s check out whether that’s the only glitch in the Grand i10 Nios or it makes up for it in another department.
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Exterior
The Nios looks different in styling, that’s for sure. It might divide opinions, however, it appears better than its ‘booted’ avatar Aura. The familiar cascading grille takes the centre stage with white LED DRLs neatly placed at the top two corners of the grille. Defying the trend, Hyundai has resorted to halogen projector headlamps and fog lamps. No LEDs. Small fog lamp housing looks neat and minimal chrome use give you a break from regular chrome-dipped cars. It clearly looks like an evolved Grand i10, which is not a bad sign anyway.
Blackened B and C-pillar along with contrasting black roof looks sporty. The bold creases of the bonnet move to the sides as well. The machine-cut alloy wheels look fantastic. Depending on the engine option and variant, the wheel size varies from 14 to 15 inches.
The rear takes a sober approach with small tail lamp unit and limited use of chrome. The NIOS lettering in the centre of the tailgate looks good. The rear view camera unit sits above the NIOS engraving and pops out.
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Dimensions
The third-generation Grand i10 looks premium inside as well. The doors open wide and seats are positioned higher for better all-round view. The dashboard feels like a segment-above one with aircraft turbine-like AC vents and honeycomb embossing on half of the dash. The quality of materials used make one feel like sitting in an i20, well, almost. The clean instrument cluster and snappy touchscreen lift the ambience of the Nios further.
Seats provide a good amount of back and under-thigh support. However, fixed headrests for front seats is a surprise. You get height-adjustable driver’s seat and coupled with tilt-adjustable steering, finding the right seating position is effortless. Although there is enough room at the rear, seating three abreast will be a squeeze.
