Is Kia Carnival Worth the Price Tag

    Tracking Kia Motors’ journey

Kia is one of the biggest car manufacturers in South Korea. Their models are a hit in countries such as India, Malaysia, Singapore, China, and Thailand. Their products are known for their high reliability and excellent mileage. In fact, these days, most people in these countries have started considering Kia as a preferred car brand.

Take India for an example. When car brands like Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Hyundai (whose subsidiary is Kia), Toyota, Tata Motors, Ford and various others were seeing an upwards growth in the Indian car market, Kia announced its arrival in India. Although Kia was fully backed by Hyundai, the second-largest car maker in the country, but its fortune wasn’t fully predicted to be on the brighter side. Its survival in the Indian auto industry seemed uncertain then.

Interestingly, Kia’s fate has been shining in India with its lineup that includes the Seltos, the Carnival and the Sonet. But the buyers aren’t able to fully gauge the potential of Kia Carnival and it yet awaits its complete success.

To the buyers, Kia Carnival appears to be a pricey choice as compared to the popular MPV in the market, the Toyota Innova Crysta. Hence, let’s find out if Kia Carnival is truly worth its price bracket i.e. Rs 24.95 – 33.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) or, is it overpriced?

Analysis of Kia Carnival’s exterior and interior

    Kia Carnival Exterior Features

You must admit that the look and feel of a Kia Carnival is hard to match. The sharp front fender and sporty rear profile makes it attractive enough. Its character looks very much like an ultra-premium car. The classy paintwork along with a breathtaking design certainly makes it appear a car that’s worth more than 30 lakh rupees. In addition, the car looks sizable enough and gets minor exterior details to give it an appealing stance. Compared to the looks of Toyota Innova Crysta, there’s certainly a big leap if we talk about the exterior design and quality.

    Kia Carnival Interior Features

As far as the interior goes, the seats are plush and comfortable. You would immediately feel that the interior is cosy and warm and even the abundance of storage options will delight you. The controls are easy to use and Kia offers a great cabin quality. Kia also has been manufacturing high-performance vehicles that are very fuel efficient and similar engineering works are done under the hood of the Kia Carnival too.

We think that the biggest reason why the Kia Carnival can be worth the money is because of its luxurious comforts inside. From the seating layout to the interior colours, the Carnival simply oozes class and style. The sturdy and durable cabinetry, the plush interior fabrics and the ultra-comfortable seats will remind of the cabins of the Mercs and the BMWs. Besides this, the cabin of this car also doesn’t disappoint on the space and comfort front too. There’re whole lot of advanced features to make your rides comfy and convenient. The air conditioning does its job as good as the ACs of ultra-luxury cars in India. Then, there’re other notable features such as wireless internet, DVD player, satellite radio, and so on. It has excellent storage room as well, which is one reason why it is always considered a classy car for travel enthusiasts.

Analysis of Kia Carnival’s engine and specifications

As Kia Carnival is priced higher than its rival Toyota Innova Crysta, we did a detailed analysis and were able to determine the increased cost justification in terms of specs. Kia Carnival is powered by 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine which generates a power of 200 PS and a torque of 440 Nm. This MPV is offered with an 8-speed automatic transmission to offer a hassle-free driving experience.

While Toyota Innova Crysta is offered in two engine options – 2.7-litre petrol and 2.4-litre diesel. While the 2.4-litre diesel engine generates 150 PS of power and 343 Nm of torque, the 2.7-litre petrol engine of Innova generates 166 PS of power and 245 Nm of torque. Transmission options of Innova Crysta include a 5 – speed manual and a 6 – speed automatic gearbox.

Now, if you look at the engine capacity, you may incline towards the Innova Crysta as it comes with larger sized 2.4-litre diesel and 2.7-litre petrol engines. But the key differentiators here are the Carnival’s higher power (200 PS) and torque (440 Nm) outputs. So speaking on the performance fronts, the Carnival churns more power and throws better punch on the roads and it also generates more torque, making you confident while overtaking and cruising the vehicle on the roads.
