Read important highlights about upcoming compact SUV Kia Sonet.
Kia Motors has been consistently teasing its subcompact SUV, the Sonet, from past few months. The third product from Kia will be fully unveiled on August 7 followed by the launch in September 2020. It revealed the parts of exteriors and interiors earlier this month, which gives us a sneak peek into the feature list of the upcoming SUV. It was first put on display at the 2020 Auto Expo in a production-ready concept form. Let’s have a look at the five most important aspects of the Sonet that you should know.
Kia is tight-lipped about the engines of the Sonet. However, with the Sonet sharing its platform with the Hyundai Venue, it’s most likely to share the motors as well. The three engines of the Venue are 1-litre turbo petrol, 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre turbo diesel. While the 1.0-litre petrol produces 120PS and 171Nm, 1.5-litre petrol develops 115PS and 144Nm. The 1.5-litre diesel engine is good for 115PS of max power and 250Nm of peak torque. A six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT is likely to be mated to these engines.
From the teasers that Kia has released till date, we have a rough idea about its design. The SUV will get Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille, pronounced wheel arches, sculpted bonnet and aggressive fog lamp and air intake design. Blackened b-pillar, chrome-lining on window panes and a fresh alloy wheel design are likely to make a way in the new Sonet.
Comfort and Convenient Features
Being a cousin of Hyundai Venue, the Kia Sonet will be loaded to the brim. The Sonet will arrive with a high-tech digital display and instrument cluster along with top-quality cabin material. It will be getting a first-in-segment 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system with UVO connected technologies – similar to the Seltos. Competing with the Venue and Brezza, the Sonet has to bring more features at an aggressive price.
The unofficial bookings of the Kia Sonet are already underway at select dealerships. We expect the subcompact SUV to be priced in the range of Rs 8-13 lakh. However, it should undercut its rivals if it wants to be in the top list of compact SUV buyers.
