Kia Sonet Subcompact SUV Concept Previewed at the Auto Expo 2020

South Korean car manufacturer, Kia Motors has unveiled the Kia Sonet concept at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida. Expected to hit showrooms near Diwali 2020, it will sit under Seltos SUV in Kia Motors India line-up. To be the third offering by Kia, the under-4-metre SUV will not only rival Hyundai Venue but will also share components with it. With a likely price tag of Rs 7-11 lakh (ex-showroom), it will take on Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Nexon in its segment.

Dubbed as QYI (its internal code name), compact SUV concept features large bonnet line with tiger-nose grille and is complemented by sharp headlamp styling that integrates LED DRLs and the projector lens. The sides see its tall upright stance and flared wheel arches with large diamond-cut alloy wheels leaving behind a muscular mark of its own.

Chances are wholesome that Kia’s baby SUV will feature a similar set of engine choices as seen in the Venue albeit with low power tunes (more fuel efficiency). The subcompact Hyundai SUV assortment currently has three BS6 compliant engines namely 1.2L petrol (83 PS), 1.4L diesel (90 PS) and 1.0L turbo petrol (120 PS). The production-spec of Kia Sonet is likely to come with a manual as well as DCT automatic transmission options on the petrol duos, while diesel may have to console with a manual choice.

The cabin will come packed with various convenient, entertainment, and connected features that include touch-screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, push-button start-stop, electric sunroof, auto climate control, 10.25-inch touchscreen, and a Bose sound music system wireless charger and UVO Connected Tech. To be manufactured at Kia Motors’ Anantapur (Andra Pradesh) facility, after its debut, Kia Sonet will be the new entry-level model in the country.
