Car sales are picking up once again as we can see from the sales report from March 2022. Carmakers like Maruti Suzuki Hyundai and Tata are doing better than ever. Let us take a look at the top-selling cars in 2022 and see why we may or may not like them despite their sales performance.

  1. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

The first thing you notice and like about the Wagon R is its spacious cabin. Even the boot is generous with 341-litre space for your luggage. The 2022 Wagon R has got new dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors with all the variants. Automatic variants above VXi additionally get hill hold assist. The price range of the 2022 Wagon R is Rs 5.48 lakh to Rs 7.20 lakh (ex-showroom price). However, the interior material quality is not that impressive and the brakes could do with a better pedal response. Features like adjustable rear headrests, height-adjustable driver’s seat, rear parking camera and alloy wheels are missing.

Maruti Suzuki offers a lot of features as well like automatic LED headlights, auto-folding ORVMs, push-button engine start/stop, auto AC with rear vents, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 4.2-inch multi-colour MID, and cruise control. But there is no diesel engine option with Dzire and like the Wagon R, the interior material quality can be better.

It has a spacious cabin and premium quality materials for it. But the automatic is not as good as the CVT/DCT. The new features include 40+ connected car features, a 9.0-inch Smartplay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The ride quality is very good even on bumpy Indian roads.

Nexon gets extra points with the 5-star GNCAP rating because of features like an electric stability program, electric traction control, hydraulic brake assist, hill-hold control and tyre pressure monitoring system. On the downside, both engines lack refinement and the infotainment system is not up to date.

Meanwhile, the new facelift did not get many changes in its design and the safety features are not available with the manual variants.

The infotainment system is also outdated but other than that, Punch is pretty cool in its segment at the price it is offered.

Both the diesel and petrol engines are offered with automatic transmission choice. There are only 3 diesel variants and the Sports variant is automatic only. Whereas, the petrol engine strains to perform when the car is filled to its maximum capacity and the lack of features both comfort and safety is disappointing.
