New MG Motor 5 Seater Petrol SUV Leaks Ahead Of Global Debut

MG Motor a.k.a. Morris Garages, is a British marque known for its sports cars and mini cars. It was founded in 1924 by Cecil Kimber. Over the years, with its glorious history, the ownership of the company has changed hands across diversified business conglomerates to finally being owned by Chinese state-run SAIC Motor.

This Chinese car manufacturer MG is among the top manufacturers in the country and has been working on the MG One SUV, which has recently been leaked, to keep its lineup fresh. Let’s examine the new upcoming crossover in detail.

Exterior Design

MG One SUVs appeared in leaked photos sporting an aggressive blue paint job. The overall profile of the vehicle could be described as a crossover or soft SUV. While there are some SUV elements, they are not fundamentally true to the brand. A large part of the product has been specifically designed for customers who live in urban environments. This car is distinguished by multiple lines that follow the contours of the body. The dual-tone colour treatment, substantial cladding and split-type alloys are distinctive in design.

The SUV is distinguished from the rest of the group by its wide grille and its angular headlamps, both of which feature LED inserts. The rear looks a bit overdone, with multiple elements pushing for attention. Although the most interesting parts would be the taillights and the high-mounted stop lamp.

According to the manufacturer, the MG One has dimensions of 4,579 mm in length, 1609 mm in height, and 1,866 mm in width. It has a 2,670 mm wheelbase, which makes it one of the longest SUVs on the market.

Engine

MG One’s engine will be a 4 cylinder 1.5L turbo petrol engine that’s expected to deliver 178 bhp max power. It is anticipated to produce peak torque between 250 and 260 Nm. A 6-speed manual gearbox and a dual-clutch automatic gearbox should be the main transmission options. A plug-in hybrid variant is also possible in the future from MG, although there has been no confirmation as of yet.

Launch

According to the latest leak, the MG One shall debut soon and then be launched shortly after that. We expect deliveries to begin in the second half of 2021. It won’t surprise us if MG decides to sell the MG One in other countries in the future. As of now, the MG One is only available in China, but it’s not impossible that it will become available elsewhere. MG does not seem to have any plans to bring the One to India in the near future. Astor will be the company’s entry into the heavily crowded and steadily growing – mid-sized SUV segment with its launch. The Astor will be MG’s first petrol-powered vehicle since the MG ZS electric vehicle. There are four main competitors of the Astor – Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun.
