Mahindra has finally launched the much-awaited KUV100 electric SUV in India at the 2020 Auto Expo. With prices starting from Rs 8.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) it earns the tag of being the most affordable e-SUV in India undercutting the recently launched Tata Nexon EV. The smallest Mahindra electric SUV debuted as a concept in the 2018 Auto Expo. The car will come with connected car technology, modern infotainment system and pre-cooling feature as major highlights. Capable of covering a distance of 147 km in a single charge, it’s backed by a 15kWh battery pack under hood.

With not much of modifications in the exterior design in comparison to the ongoing KUV100 NXT, eKUV100 sees a proper electric car front with no grille, restyled head lamps and tail lamps. Its 40kW electric motor generates a maximum power output of nearly 53 bhp alongside 120 Nm of top torque value. The electric motor is coupled to a single-speed transmission unit.

Right now, Mahindra has not made much of the details public for its e-SUV. Still some of its likely attributes include low resistance tyres and smooth wheel covers for better electric mileage. The cabin is expected to remain similar to the existing petrol version, while the KUV’s floating gear-lever will now see automatic transmission integration. Its liquid-cooled battery with fast charging function is expected to charge from zero to 80% in nearly an hour.

The connect tech element will provide on the move remote diagnosis of the eKUV100 along with features such as remote door lock/unlock, location tracking and battery status updates through its mobile app. The pre-cooling feature can be managed by the connected app, a feature not even found on conventional fuel cars in this price range. Mahindra has not revealed any details on its pan-India availability and prices in other cities of the country.
