Mahindra, the India-bound utility vehicle manufacturer, has revealed a brand-new proving track ahead of the global launch of the XUV700. Mahindra has built a new track in Kanchipuram; Tamil Nadu called the Mahindra SUV Proving Track (MSPT). This new track is designed to test future SUV models of Mahindra.
Larsen and Toubro (L&T) built Mahindra’s new SUV proving track, which was designed by IDIADA (Institute ‘Investigació Aplicada de l’Automobile – Institute for Applied Automotive Research). Aside from housing the 4X4 Centre of Excellence, the new 454-acre facility will also host several other off-roading facilities. The facility will not only be used to develop vehicles but will also be accessible to enthusiasts.
In addition, the MSPT is located just 55km from the Mahindra Research Valley, near Chennai, which houses almost all of Mahindra’s vehicle development activities in India. Mahindra Research Valley engineers will benefit from this new track since it will allow them to thoroughly test the product and prepare it for homologation.
MSPT has a 454-acre area with a 4×4 centre and 20 purpose-built tracks in addition to the 4X4 centre. The devices include a zero per cent slope test, a high-speed test with a parabolic banking setup of 43.7 degrees for testing at higher neutral speeds. There is a straight high-speed road on the track which can reach over 200 kph.
Additionally, a 2-km, 11-metre road with a 0% longitudinal slope is constructed for performance and coasting measurements. Dynamic platforms with a diameter of 250 metres are used to develop and evaluate vehicle dynamics. The brake pad was built with six different surfaces, and dry and wet tracks to test braking, ABS, ESP, and TCS.
The test track features all sorts of bad road surfaces, including potholes, undulations, Belgian pavement, cobblestones, rumblers, gravel, and speed breakers of all kinds.
The MSPT can simulate water wading and splashes. Moreover, it can simulate dust storms within a chamber. Additionally, MSPT has a humidity chamber for vehicle corrosion tests. A 4X4 adventure track with over 25 obstacles is located at the 4X4 experience centre. A health centre, exclusive prototype workshops, and an administrative tower with room for over 200 engineers complete MSPT.
