Mahindra Thar is not just another SUV in the town, it’s more. Sighting its prevailing legacy and towering admiration, one cannot reckon that Thar is just a decade-old. Since its initial launch in 2010, the off-road SUV was begging for a holistic update, and the new-gen 2020 Mahindra Thar was born. The latest, true-blue adventure machine now dons a never-before-imagined demeanour inside as well as outside. It receives updated interiors, refreshed feature-list, more comfort and importantly new engine duo of petrol and diesel choices under hood. Made available in three trims – AX, AX (O), and LX – Thar receives six extraordinary shades to choose from.

The all-new Thar is priced between Rs 9.80 lakh to Rs 13.75 lakh. Although it majorly comes in three variants however follows many sub variants in the form of hard-top, soft top, convertible, AT, MT and so on. Mahindra Thar Engine & Specifications
The latest iteration of the Thar comes in the petrol and diesel engine choice. Its new 2.0L, mStallion 150 TGDi turbocharged petrol unit churns out good for 150PS of max power at 5000rpm and 300Nm (MT)/320Nm (AT) of peak torque value at 1250-3000rpm. On the other side the 2.2L, mHawk 130 diesel engine produces highest power output of 130PS at 3750rpm and 300Nm of peak torque value at 1600-2800rpm. Both the engines come with a choice of 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic gearbox, while the 4×4 mechanism is standard on both the engines.
Mahindra Thar Exterior & Dimensions
First glimpse and anyone would mistake it for a two-door Jeep Wrangler. The iconic Thar in its comprehensive new-gen look has grown up in all the exterior parameters. The outside appears rugged and bold, and at the same time, it impresses with its premium quotient and brilliantly done paint job. The front grille remains retro, the circular halogen headlamps are crystal clear and the LED DRLs rest on the fenders. The fascinating bumpers are scratch-resistant and get fog lamp housing. Moreover, the sporty air vent beneath the bumper looks modern. The sides feature engine badging, large black ORVM, sturdy sidestep, large contrast wheel fenders and not to forget the chunky wheels with right size tyres. The rear gets retro LED tail lamps and reflector mounted on the bumper, while the bare spare wheel intriguingly completes the rear. The underlining factor this time is one can choose Thar as per the taste; soft-top, hard-top or convertible.
The new Thar now measures 3985mm in length, 1855mm in width, and 1844mm in height along with a wheelbase of 2450mm, while the ground clearance stands at a big 226mm.
Mahindra Thar Interior & Features
The interiors follow a drastic transformation, the cabin is now plush, acquires more space and use of quality materials make it adorable. It receives a new dashboard design that comes with waterproof feature, while the cabin is washable in case it gets muddy after a sheer adventure drive. The overall arrangement of the cabin is practical with stowage near the gear lever, cup holders, two USB ports, AUX port and a 12V socket. Better headroom and kneeroom is provided on rear seats, which are available in bench-like face-to-face seating and two captain-like seats.
Further, the new Thar shuns its boring feature-list. It makes way for fresh, tech-focused equipment that comprises of front power windows, height-adjustable driver seat, power-adjustable mirrors, tilt-steering, steering-mounted audio/phone controls, remote keyless entry, cruise control and others. Some more cool elements to keep occupants engaged include a colour multi-information display, new 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and navigation and 6-speaker music player two and tweeters.

Besides the robust built quality of the Thar other safety aspects consist of dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, BA and ESP, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), tyre position indicator, hill hold and hill descent control.

The petrol-driven Thar delivers fuel efficiency of 12-15kmpl, while the diesel-run engine consumes one litre of fuel every 15-18 kilometres.
