Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest passenger car maker has witnessed a 3X growth in vehicle production in the month of June 2021 as compared to the corresponding month in 2020.
The June 2020 production was far from normal owing to COVID-related lockdowns and disruptions, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a regulatory filing.
Production of mini cars comprising Alto and S-Presso models stood at 26,316 units last month as against 10,048 units in June 2020.
Similarly, manufacturing of compact cars, comprising Wagon R, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Baleno and Dzire, rose to 89,966 units last month as against 26,242 units in June 2020, MSI said.
“Production figures of June 2021 have to be seen in the context that the company advanced its maintenance shutdown, normally done in June to May 2021,” the carmaker stated.
Production of utility vehicles — Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza and XL6 — increased to 35,917 units last month from 9,714 units in the corresponding month of 2020. MSI said production of its light commercial vehicle Super Carry was at 1,266 units in June 2021 as against 2,539 units in the year-ago month.
