- German luxury carmaker Mercedes is all set to bring its hatchback AMG A45 S to India this Diwali.
- With the world’s most powerful four-cylinder engine currently in production, it is expected to cost Rs 75 lakh onwards.
- Unlike A35, A45 S will arrive as a CBU import.
On Diwali this year, India is getting Mercedes’ AMG A45 S, the firecracker to end all fireworks on the street. This hot hatchback may come with the biggest price tag too, seeing that the estimated prices start from Rs 75 lakh. Post-launch AMG 45 S will be the most expensive vehicle in the country in its segment.
With a red hot four-cylinder engine under its hood, it is currently the world’s most powerful hatchback.
Engine, Gearbox and Brakes
The luxury hatchback is powered by a twin-scroll turbocharger that boosts its output to 416bhp at 6750rpm and 500Nm of peak torque from 5000 to 5250rpm, sent to all 4 wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and the Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.
The A45 S also comes with upgraded brakes in the form of 360mm front and 330mm rear discs, with red painted six-pot front and one-pot rear calipers.
AMG 45 S goes from 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds. Its top speed is 270 kmph.
The A45 S is 54mm wider than the A35 and the muscled A-class gives the car a hunkered-down stance.
It has the AMG Panamericana grille upfront, an aero kit that adds aggression to the car’s look, new bumpers with larger air intakes and integrated splitter, a roof-mounted rear wing, dual twin-exit exhaust.
The 19-inch AMG-specific alloy wheels are housed in pumped-up wheel arches. The wheels can also be levelled up with optional Pirelli Trofeo R tyres.
Inside, the A45 S is like every other A-Class. The twin-screen AMG cockpit features displays for the instrument cluster and the infotainment display layout (with integrated MBUX) along with the turbine-style air vents.
The AMG specific centre console features integral control switches for the manual transmission mode, 3-stage ESP and the AMG ride control suspension setup. The interior comes clothed in a variety of options including man-made leather and microfibre.
AMG Track Pace System:
It allows the driver to check lap, sector and acceleration times plus selected live telemetrics data, allowing them to analyse and improve their driving skills on the race track.
AMG Ride Control System:
This allows drivers to tweak the suspension setup on their A45 S and choose between Comfort, Sport or Sport+.

The AMG 35, currently, is assembled in India. Since the hatchback A45 will arrive as a completely built unit import vehicle, the premium will be higher than that of the luxury sedan. In short, AMG 45 S is nothing but a pocket rocket ready to let fly, as long as your pockets dip deep.
