MG Astor, a compact-sized SUV product of MG Motors is expected to be revealed on 18th August in India. It will be the fourth product to be launched by MG Motors in the country. The stunning model is anticipated to be an AI-Powered, technologically driven SUV.

The model’s test mules have been spotted on multiple occasions before but in a grey and white camo cover. This particular sighting claimed a new camo avatar- a black skin with colorful, quirky emoticons scattered on it. They are decoded as a symbolic for the set of internet-connected smart features called i-Smart. A huge ‘AI Sticker’ has been spotted on its side. It’s a testimonial to the much-anticipated AI-based Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

The MG Astor is apparently the petrol twin of MG ZS EV. While it’s named Astor in India, it’s called MG ZS in the European market. It is expected to flaunt features like the Front Collision Warning System, Lane Departure Warning, Hands-free Auto Parking Facility, Blind-Spot Detection, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

The i-Smart feature is found in all of MG’s models now and is basically a technological platform that supports 50-plus smart features. Some of the coolest features include Find my car, emergency assistance, Geo-fencing, voice commands, vehicle health report, weather status, and navigation facilities. It also allows users to use several features like engine start, climate control, open/close sunroof, tailgate, door lock, among many others.

This i-Smart technology demands M2M embedded SIM (e-SIM), for which MG has collaborated on the Internet of Things (IOT) with Reliance Jio to develop its platform using JIO’s telecom network and other software & hardware needs. The e-SIM will essentially be a 5G that will make it technologically independent for the future. With this advanced and wonderful feature, the connected car experience will surely step up.

The SAIC-Motor subsidiary, broke another significant news concerning a new tech front, earlier this week. The Novel technology named Concept of Car as a Platform (CAAP) will be showcased in the upcoming models launched by MG, with MG Astor as the technology Debutant.

CAAP is a completely different technology platform and MG Motors is pairing up with various global ecosystem partners to evolve its support system with the aid of growing technologies like Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. The CAAP will enhance the development and usage of services in the car domain.

The previous spy reports and sightings have revealed details about the new MG model. While nothing is official, Astor is expected to have a price tag of around Rs. 9-15 lakh. It’s also rumoured to be fueled by either a 1.5-litre Petrol or a 1.3-litre Diesel engine, both tuned with a 6-speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox. Upon Astor’s arrival in the Indian car market, it will undoubtedly be the most feature-rich car in its segment and above.

MG Astor is likely to lock horns with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun.
