1. 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO

1963 Ferrari 250 GTO

Ferrari won its 9th consecutive Tour de France Automobile with the 2550 GTO. It raced better in the Le Mans and was also the fastest vehicle back in the 60s’. In the first 2 years of the launch of this model, Ferrari only built 36 units of these cars. Ferrari’s 1963 250 GTO was the most expensive vehicle to have been built ever. Its position on the top of the list of the costliest cars has not changed in the last 60 years. It probably won’t in the near future as well. The car has recorded its top speed at 174 miles per hour and the time of acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. A lot of the recently designed cars struggle to keep up with this powerful machine.

1963 Ferrari 250 GTO is revered by fans who call it the Picasso of the Motoring World and the Holy Grail of Ferrari. No one has beaten the proud invention of the company to date. If you are wondering about those who bought this beautiful piece of machinery, let us tell you the names of the owners are as big as the car’s – Ralph Lauren, Nick Mason from Pink Floyd, Microsoft COO and its former President Jon Shirley.

2. Rolls-Royce Boat Tail

Rolls-Royce Boat Tail

Although nowhere close to the Ferrari’s 1963 250 GTO, Rolls-Royce unveiled the new Boat Tail in 2021 at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy. A very uniquely designed model, the Boat Tail is inspired by the original 1932 Boat Tail and has added interesting features from the J-Class yacht. A coach-built model with only 3 units available, the 2021 Boat Tail has a powerful and impressive 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 engine capable of producing 563 hp output. If you ignore the 250 GTO, Rolls-Royce has officially made the Boat Tail the most expensive new car in 2022 with the price of the car beginning at Rs 214.5 Cr ($28 million).

3. Bugatti La Voiture Noire

Bugatti La Voiture Noire

In the third spot is The Black Car or La Voiture Noire from Bugatti. Bugatti not only went with minimalism in the name but the production units are also limited to only 9. With exclusivity and the car essentially an elegant fashion statement for the owners, Bugatti had no need to go for flash. In the short time since its unveiling in 2019, the car has become an iconic model with its classic French name, gorgeous design and quiet, restrained power.

The body shell is completely carbon-fibre and hand-sculpted according to Bugatti. The engine is a quad-turbo W16 8.10-litre engine that can generate up to 1500 hp and push the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.4 seconds. La Voiture Noire can attain a top speed of 260 mph.

PRICE STARTING FROM Rs 143 Cr ($18.7 million)

4. Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta

Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta

Pagani began its journey with the Zonda back in 1999. Even though the Huayra has taken its place, Pagani continues special editions of Zonda every once in a while. The Zonda HP Barchetta was named so by Pagani himself as it looked like a little boat to him – which is what the name means. Barchetta has an ultra-light body due to its carbon fibre frame and very short stature of only 21 inches in height.

There are only 3 HP Barchettas produced making it impossible to buy one.

  • Top speed – 220 mph
  • Acceleration from 0-60 mph – 3.4 seconds
  • PRICE STARTING FROM Rs 134.8 Cr ($17.6 million)

5. Rolls-Royce Sweptail

Rolls Royce Sweptail

This one of its kind car was debuted at the 2017 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. At that time, it reigned as the most expensive car in the world until Bugatti released its La Voiture Noire. Giles Taylor, then a design director at Rolls-Royce called the Sweptail, haute couture of the automobile industry. With the coach-built cars of the 1920s and 30s’ in mind, Rolls-Royce built the Sweptail as a full-size luxury 2-door coupe. The engine under the hood is a 453 bhp 6.75-litre V12 paired with ZF 8-speed automatic. The most interesting fact about this car is that its owner is not known. Makes the car all the more mysterious, doesn’t it?

PRICE STARTING FROM Rs 99.53 Cr ($13 million)

6. Bugatti Centodieci

Bugatti Centodieci

Centodieci from Bugatti is 2022’s new launch with exclusive 10 units that have already been sold including the one to Christiano Ronaldo. Built as a tribute to the EB110 model from the 90s’, Centodieci did not reach the speed and time Bugatti had expected from it.

The Centodieci has been designed to give the passengers a decadent ride with its modern interiors, luxury features and memorable performance. Driving in one of these might feel like a dream with the quad-turbo W-16 engine that can produce 1577 hp and push the car from 0-60 mph in just 2.4 seconds.

Among all the exquisite models in the company’s portfolio, this one might not make the top spot for speed although its top speed of 236 mph is nothing to be sneezed at. This luxury hypercar compensates for the slight hitch in its speed with its exclusivity, unique aesthetics and performance.

PRICE STARTING FROM Rs 68.90 Cr ($9 million)

7. Bugatti Divo

Bugatti Divo

Named after the famous French race car driver Albert Divo, Bugatti Divo comes as the limited and exotic successor to the Chiron. It even has some of the same features form the Chiron. The changes from the Chiron come in the form of reduced weight, updated suspension and a dorsal fin. The 1500 hp 8.0L W-16 engine with four turbochargers can make the car accelerate to 60 mph from 0 in just 2.4 seconds. The top speed has been recorded at 236 mph. Bugatti has planned only for 40 production models, all of which are pre-sold.

PRICE STARTING FROM Rs 45.93 Cr ($6 million)

8. Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+

The first-ever vehicle to break the 300-mile speed limit, the Chiron Super Sport 300+ will always remain a star no matter how many better models come after it. The name symbolises power, speed and style which was what it was built for. The futuristic aesthetics of the car is not just a design statement but a testament to artistry in engineering. The body is streamlined aerodynamically to reduce resistance and enhance forward propulsion while the rear end gets a new exhaust tailpipe that aids in lowering the drag.

A quad-turbocharged 8-litre W-16 motor is housed under the hood that can produce up to 1577 hp. It can accelerate to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds and like we already said, it crossed the 300 mph top speed limit before any of its rivals. Driving in one of the Chiron Super Sport 300+ will make you feel like the million bucks you might have paid for it. This is not quite possible now with only 30 units produced and, more importantly, the car’s price tag starting at Rs 43.65 Cr ($5.7 million).

9. Lamborghini Sian

Lamborghini Sian

The name Sian literally translated to Lightning strike in the Bolognese language. Lamborghini unveiled this hybrid super sports car with the world’s first supercapacitor system in its engine in the year 2019, the first ever in this segment from the Italian carmaker. This powerful hybrid is powered by a 6.5-litre L539 V12 engine and a 48-volt electric motor that produces a combined 808 hp output. The transmission is a 7-speed ISR gearbox and the car drives as an all-wheel-drive system with a rear mechanical self-locking differential.

This exotic beauty of a car has an electro-chromic roof and the moving surfaces are controlled by smart materials like the ones in the rear vent flaps. The flaps are autonomous and open by themselves without any sensors or electronic control to release the heat. The body is obviously carbon fibre covered and contributes to the speed of the car.

  • Top Speed – 220 mph
  • Acceleration from 0-60 mph – 2.8 seconds

Prices starting from Rs 27.58 Cr ($3.6 million), Sian is Lamborghini’s fastest and the most expensive model to date. The brand limited the production models to 63 units for the coupe and 19 units for the roadster versions of Sian of which every single unit has been sold already.

10. Pagani Huayra BC Roadster

Pagani Huayra BC Roadster

The company’s founder, Horacio Pagani named this model BC, after a close friend and successful New York real estate businessman, Benny Caiola. He was also the first to own Pagani’s Zonda in 2000. The name Huayra however comes from the Quechua wind god, Huayra-tata.

The Huayra BC Roadster is a beautiful work in terms of its design which is one of the reasons that the model is still favoured widely and its price tag has hiked to three times what it was when it was initially launched in 2011. The body is not carbon fibre but carbon-titanium HP62 which contributes to the much-reduced weight and in turn to the speed of the car. Apparently, Pagani took it to himself to design the interiors of all the Huayra BC Roadsters.

This particular variant of the Huayra was limited to 40 units in production.

PRICE STARTING FROM Rs 26.82 Cr ($3.5 million)
