Over the next couple of months, carmakers are launching a slew of new models ahead of the festive season. These are some of the new cars and SUVs that will be hitting showrooms within the next few months.
Hyundai i20 N Line (2 September 2021)
The Hyundai i20 N Line will be launched on September 2. With the introduction of the Hyundai i20 N Line, Hyundai’s N performance brand makes its debut in India. The interior has also been updated with a sporty interior touch and an exterior body kit. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine will be paired with the 6-speed iMT or 7-speed DCT automatic transmission, producing 120 horsepower. Additionally, the suspension and steering have been re-tuned, and the exhaust note has been modified.
MG Astor (Mid-September 2021)
Earlier this month, MG announced that it would produce the Astor in India, while also revealing several features and technologies that it will include. As the name suggests, the MG Astor is a facelifted gasoline version of the ZS SUV, which is already available in India with an EV drivetrain. In addition to its first-to-market Level 2 ADAS capabilities, the Astor will come with a robot-like occupant assistant on the dashboard to provide an AI assistant. A 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 120 horsepower and a turbocharged 1.3-litre gasoline engine developing 163 horsepower is expected to power the Astor. We expect the car to be launched sometime after mid-September.
Volkswagen Taigun (September 23, 2021)
Finally, Volkswagen Taigun prices will be announced on September 23rd after all the anticipations. The Volkswagen Taigun is the first Volkswagen-badged model under the India 2.0 programme, and it’s VW’s first stab at the competitive midsize SUV market. The two SUVs have similar cosmetic features like doors, roofs, and glasshouses, yet the Taigun has a more aggressive front and rear end to match VW’s design philosophy. While the interior continues to share some similarities with the Kushaq, VW tweaks some elements to help its SUV stand out. Both the Taigun and the Kushaq will be powered by turbo-petrol engines.
Force Gurkha (September 2021)
A new Force Gurkha model was originally introduced at the 2020 Auto Expo, but the launch was significantly delayed due to the pandemic. It was finally confirmed by the Force that the Gurkhas will be deployed in September. The new Gurkha looks like the previous model, but it is an all-new design, with a new ladder-frame chassis. In addition to the cabin’s upgrades, it now feels more upscale than its utilitarian predecessor. As before, buyers will be able to choose between 4×4 and 4×2 models of the SUV, with all-wheel drive and low range available on the former. Diesel engines producing 90hp and 260Nm accompany a manual transmission with a 5-speed.
Tata Punch (Festive Season)
Tata recently introduced its first micro-SUV, which is based on its HBX concept which was displayed at the 2020 Auto Expo. The Tata Punch will be positioned below the Nexon compact SUV. Tata SUV family design language can be seen in the Punch, although only one image has been released so far. Punch will also have an interior that is very similar to Altroz thanks to ALFA architecture, which also underpins it. According to reports, the Punch will be powered by an 83hp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine and a turbocharged version of the same engine. The Punch may have a choice of either a 5-speed manual or an automatic transmission. We anticipate the launch sometime in September.
Ford EcoSport Facelift (Festive Season)
Ford EcoSport facelift was recently spotted testing completely undisguised and it is scheduled to debut in the next few weeks. According to spy pictures, the grille and bumper have been changed entirely. The compact SUV is expected to remain relatively unchanged outside of the face. It is unclear what Ford will add to the interior based on the photographs, but expect newer textures and more features to make the SUV a more appealing ride. Ford holds on to the powertrain options from the current EcoSport facelift. Hence, it will continue to offer a turbo-diesel motor with 100 horsepower and a three-cylinder, naturally aspirated, 1.5-litre engine with 123 horsepower.
