Kia will soon add a blacked-out model to the Seltos line-up. A ‘Project X’ teaser has been released about the upcoming car. It’s likely that Seltos will be modelled after the X-Line concept unveiled at the 2020 Auto Show.
A special stylistic treatment was applied to the Seltos X-Line concept that was unveiled in Delhi-NCR last year to set it apart from the standard model. With the exception of the chrome applique as well as the sideboards, the SUV covered most of its body in black and wore a matte grey paint colour. The grille was surrounded by dark chrome, the bumper was black and the fog lamp housings were bronzed.
Dark chrome bars ran between the taillights, plus a solid faux skid plate was visible on the bumper, plus gloss black and bronze trims. In addition, the alloy wheels were identical to those found on the Seltos GT Line, but the colour was darker. Despite these changes, the basic profile of the SUV did not change. The production model will retain most of these design elements.
Kia is not the first manufacturer to call its Seltos the ‘X-Line’ model. At the LA Auto Show, it debuted the X-Line Trail Attack and X-Line Urban Concepts. The cars were equipped with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with 176hp and all-wheel drive (AWD). As a result, it is likely that the Seltos X-Line for Indian customers will not be available with powertrain modifications, since tailoring a powertrain for India is prohibitively expensive, as no Kia model possesses turbocharged gasoline or all-wheel drive.
The regular Seltos on sale in our market gets a wide variety of engine options – A 115hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine paired to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission; and a 140hp, 1.4-litre turbo-petrol mated to either an automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission. The front-wheel-drive configuration is standard on all versions. We expect Kia will offer both petrol and diesel engines with the Seltos X-Line.
Kia Seltos’ standard price ranges from Rs 9.95-17.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). X-Line Seltos models will be more expensive than the regular models. A spruced-up version of Kia’s midsize SUV will be available for the second time after the Seltos Anniversary Edition was introduced in limited quantities last year.
