The new Skoda Rapid is set for launch in late 2021. This has been confirmed by Zac Hollis, Director, Sales, Service & Marketing, Skoda Auto India in his tweet earlier this July. Considering this, the next-gen Skoda Rapid is currently under process and is confirmed to be based on Skoda’s new MBQ-A0-IN Platform.
Here are 5 stunning facts that you should know about the New Skoda Rapid.
Punchy Engine Choices
The next-Gen Rapid is said to be offered in two punchy TSI Turbo-Petrol engine options.
- First is the 1.0-TSI, three-cylinder petrol engine that can churn out 115hp of power. This engine will be based out of the EA211 engine family. This 1.0-TSI will be teamed up with either a six-speed manual gearbox or with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox option.
- Second is the larger 1.5-TSI, four-cylinder petrol engine that can yield 150hp of power and a whopping peak torque of 250Nm. This will surely earn the new Rapid, Skoda’s sedan class-leading reputation. The 1.5-TSI is to be coupled with a quick-shifting dual-clutch automatic gearbox option.
The powerful engines can offer a fuel efficiency of up to 18.97kmpl.
Bigger and Better
The next-gen Rapid will have larger configurations compared to its current-gen counterpart. It is expected to have a length of 4,480mm, making it significantly longer than the current Rapid that stands at 4,413mm. It will have a width that is 50mm more than the current Rapid, giving a spacious feel to the cabin in tote.
The new Rapid will have a huge wheelbase measuring about 2,651mm, which will be the largest in the segment. Such a large wheelbase is likely to provide big legroom clearance to the rear-seat passengers.
One of the most lucrative configurations that the next-gen Rapid gets is the huge boot space. Blessed with 520-litres of boot space, it has been tagged as the best-in-class most spacious vehicle. It is safe to say that the extra space additions could actually work in favour of the Czech auto-company as more room is one of the most desirable features that people search for in their sedan purchases.
New Generation, New Design
The next-gen Rapid will also receive design tweaks like the addition of a new-age Skoda grille, a flowing roofline, and sharp-cut LED lights among others. The basic profile of the new Rapid will resonate with its kin – the VW Virtus in terms of body panel stance and looks.
Skoda New Rapid is expected to be offered in four colour choices – Flash Red, Candy White, Lapiz Blue, and Brilliant Silver.
Feature-Rich and Tech-Savvy
The 2021 Skoda is equipped with features like never before. The best one is the new wireless charging equipment, ‘My Skoda’ which is a connected car-tech feature. Also included are the new ‘Play’ 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, high-quality audio setup with six speakers and a sub-woofer attached to it, sensitive-touch AC controls, and digital instrument cluster for all-in-one control.
It also flaunts leather upholstery and ventilated seats for the added comfort while the auto-headlamps and rain-sensing auto-wipers will be provided for a better driving experience. Other luxurious features will include climate control, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, tilt and reach adjustable steering wheel, keyless entry, and all four auto up and down power windows.
Safety features of the new upcoming Skoda Rapid will include four airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (in AT trim only), and rear-view mirror along with rear parking sensors.
Things that are likely to miss in the New Skoda Rapid are a panoramic sunroof and remote engine start technology. Despite these minor shortcomings, the next-gen Rapid is speculated to be the best-in-class, luxury-equipped car of its segment.
Variants, Pricing, and Competitors
The new Skoda Rapid is likely to come in six trim options: Ambition, Rider, Rider Plus, Onyx, Style, and Monte Carlo. The base-spec Rider will get a sole manual transmission whereas the rest of the trims will be available with both manual and AT Transmission.
Along with offering a more powerful engine, bigger body, and segment-rich features, Skoda has repositioned its new sedan on the price bar. The new Rapid is speculated to come in the price range of Rs. 11-15 lakh whereas the currently sold model is priced in the range of Rs. 7.79-13.29 lakh. The top trim is expected to be priced even higher. At this price range, the new Rapid can be seen locking horns with the likes of Upcoming Volkswagen Virtus, Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and Toyota Harris.
