Two major surprises that came along with the silent launch were – one, diesel engine of the Duster gets discontinued and two, the CVT automatic variant in petrol won’t be available now.
The new Renault Duster will be available in three variants – RXE, RXS and RXZ. The automaker has added a new range-topping model – RXZ – to its petrol lineup as the diesel engine (which had RXZ variant) bids adieu.
It continues to get the same 1.5-litre H4K four-cylinder petrol engine which is now BS6 compliant. It generates max power of 106 PS at 5600 rpm and max torque of 142 Nm. It is paired to 5-speed manual transmission. Another let down for off-road enthusiasts is the omission of all-wheel-drive option from the Duster lineup. It will be available only as a front-wheel-drive SUV.
Renault had showcased a new 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo last month. This BS6 compliant engine produces 156 bhp of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque and is expected to be paired to the new Duster in future. With the CVT discontinued from the 1.5-litre petrol, we expect Renault to link the new engine with a CVT or a 6-speed manual transmission. However, there is nothing official about the inclusion of this engine as of now.
