Skoda Kushaq Unveiled in India

The Czech Republic based car maker, Skoda Auto has unveiled the much-awaited Kushaq SUV in India. The Kushaq SUV is based on MQB-AO-IN platform by Volkswagen Group, designed especially for India. This platform will also underpin the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun. The car also marked its presence at the 2020 Auto Expo as the Vision-IN concept.

Skoda Kushaq has achieved 95% of localization and its prototypes have also been tested for 1.5-million kms in India. The word Kushaq has been derived from Sanskrit and it means ‘King’ or ‘Emperor’ which truly reflects the ruling ability of all new Skoda Kushaq. It is culturally inspired by India.

The all-new compact SUV will be available in two engine options – 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol. The 1.0-litre TSI engine churns 115 PS of maximum power and 175 Nm of peak torque, while the 1.5-litre TSI engine produces maximum power of 150 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines are paired with 6-speed manual transmission options, the 1.0-litre TSI engine is mated to a 6-speed torque converter and the 1.5-litre TSI engine will come with a 7-speed DSG.

On the outside, Skoda Kushaq features LED headlamps, blackened multi-slat grille, halogen fog lights, roof rails, body cladding on the sides, faux skid plates, 17-inches alloy wheels, LED tail lights, rear spoiler and sunroof. Inside, the car features 10-inches touchscreen infotainment that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless MirrorLink, 7-speaker music system, rear AC vents, ventilated front seats, cruise control, auto-dimming IRVMs, steering mounted controls, etc.

The dimensions of Skoda Kushaq are read as length of 4,221 mm, width of 1,760 mm, height of 1,612 and wheelbase of 2,651 mm. The SUV also stands elevated from the ground and has the ground clearance of 188 mm.

Prices of Skoda Kushaq are expected to be in the range of Rs 9 lakh – Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The new SUV will be competing against Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster and Nissan Kicks in the compact-SUV segment. It will be offered in Candy White, Brilliant Silver, Carbon Steel, Honey Orange and Tornado Red.
