Tata Motors unveils the Gravitas SUV at Auto Expo 2020. Packed with 3-row seats, it gets BS6-compliant engine. Tata Gravitas is expected to hit showrooms by April 2020.
Tata Motors today removed the curtains from its highly anticipated Gravitas SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo. Initially displayed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show as Tata Buzzard concept, the 7-seater will be offered with the Harrier’s BS6 compliant 2.0L diesel engine and will be mated to manual and automatic transmission choice.
Expected to be launched in India in April this year, the Harrier-inspired SUV receives many notable elements that set it apart from its 5-seater sibling. Tata Gravitas is expected to be pricier by about Rs 1 lakh against Harrier and will compete against new Mahindra XUV500 and the MG six-seater SUV in India.
Tata’s flagship model that will be positioned above Harrier is commonly referred to as the stretched version of Harrier with seven-seat layout. Underpinned by Tata’s OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) platform, Gravitas dimensions stand at 4661mm (length), 1894mm (width) and 1786mm (height), whereas the wheelbase is stretched at 2741 mm.
The attributes that distinguish the 7-seater SUV from younger Harrier comprise of newly crafted alloys, a stepped roof, and larger glasshouse area near the C-pillar. Moreover, the front remains similar to the Harrier, and rear receives fresh tail lamp cluster comprising of twin-stripe LED pattern.
A feel of Harrier is felt inside the cabin with the surroundings of the driver and co-driver seats going unchanged. The third row is offered with dedicated AC vents, and for easy ingress and egress, there is one touch flip and fold mechanism.
Some of the underlining features in the Gravitas include 8.8-inches infotainment system with iRA connectivity suite, automatic AC, analogue-digital instrument panel with a seven-inch MID (multi-information display), and others. Powering the 7-seater SUV will be the latest BS6 2.0L Kryotec diesel engine that gives out a maximum power of 170 bhp and 350Nm of high torque.
