Tata Punch is based on the ALFA ARC platform that underpinned the GNCAP 5-star rated Altroz. The Punch which is to go on sale from October 20, 2021 had kept its Global NCAP safety rating under wraps along with its price.
Bookings have commenced online and across authorised dealerships already.
The homegrown manufacturer is customarily known for manufacturing cars that usually score high in crash test ratings. This was enough reason for the wide speculation prior to the launch of Punch, a sub-compact SUV.
In a rare circumstance, the Tata website had apparently put up “Uncompromised safety with GNCAP 5 Star Rated Product, Dual Airbags, ABS with EBD” in the car’s description that was later deleted from the website. The image still remains in circulation though.
If this leaked image from the OEM website is anything to go by, Punch is going to beat out any competition in its price range by being the foremost runner with the possession of the high-safety features.
Safety features in Tata Punch include Dual airbags that are standard offers, ABS & EBD with Brake sway control, Front fog lamps with cornering function, reverse parking camera, auto headlamps and rain-sensing wipers. Other than these, it also comes with ISOFIX, perimetric alarm, puddle lamps, rear defogger and a fortified cabin.
The ALFA architecture on which Punch’s build is based is said to be one of the safest designs. This added to the offered specifications within its price range, will make it a popular choice among first-time buyers and also pull in a whole lot of buyers from its adjacent segments.
This sub-compact SUV draws its power from a 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that gives out a power output of 86 PS and 113 NM torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT transmission along with the Traction Pro mode that aids in mild off-roading situations.
Talking about its tech, the Tata Punch comes with a seven-inch TFT instrument cluster, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, iRA connect, flat-bottom steering wheel with mounted controls, cruise control, push-button start/stop and also a rear central armrest.
Tata is offering Punch in four different Personas namely, Creative, Accomplished, Adventure and Pure, to appeal to the customers on a personal level of their needs.
It is also going to be available in 7 different colours:
- Tornado Blue
- Calypso Red
- Meteor Bronze
- Atomic Orange
- Tropical Mist
- Daytona Grey
- Orcus White
As for the accuracy of the GNCAP rating, we will have to wait for the launch of Tata Punch on October 20th.
