Tata has launched its much-anticipated youngest SUV Punch in India at starting price of Rs 5.49 lakh. The car is available in four different personas and seven different colours.
Tata launched India’s first safest sub-compact SUV, Punch, today on the 18th of October 2021. It will be available now at over 1000 Tata Motors showrooms at the starting price of Rs 5.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Tag lined as the safest car to be made in India with a 5-star GNCAP rating, the SUV generated a lot of interest these past few weeks.
The latest in the line of ‘New Forever Range’ of SUV, Punch is currently the youngest and safest of them all. Equipped with high-end features, Punch carries Tata SUV line’s defining characteristics – Stunning Design, Versatile and Engaging Performance, Roomy and Spacious Interiors, and Absolute Safety.
Speaking at the launch of this exciting new offering, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, President – Passenger Vehicles Business Unit (PVBU), Tata Motors, commented, “With PUNCH, we have created an entirely new category altogether to address a growing need for a small-in-size cars with a true SUV character.”

Punch’s design showcases the brand’s Impact 2.0 design language. The brand new sub-compact SUV is stunning and bold with a tall stance and high ground clearance. Its commanding driving position provides an exhilarating driving experience even while navigating all the unexpected challenges on the road. The class-leading comfort, advanced infotainment and connectivity match the high expectations of the buyers.
Exterior & Interior
The new Punch is built on Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) Architecture.
It has got new R16 diamond-cut alloy wheels, wheel arches and sill cladding, projector headlamps & LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and signature LED tail lamps.
The doors have a classical SUV design with cladding and the car comes in dual-tone roof options (in White & Black). Rear seating is comfortable for 3 Passengers with ample legroom, shoulder width and thigh support.
The dashboard is Granite Black with Glacier Grey Inserts. The cabin has premium fabric seats with signature Tri-Arrow pattern and the leather-wrapped steering wheel & gear shift knob surely catch the attention.
On the other hand, Punch is also fitted with numerous convenience features such as, Auto Headlamps & Rain Sensing Wipers, Push Button Start, Fully Automatic Temperature Control, Auto Fold ORVM, Rear Wiper & Wash and Follow Me Home Headlamps. It also features a steering mounted controls and tilt steering wheel.
The highlight in the cabin is the 7-inch Harman Infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple Carplay. There is also another 7-inch TFT Instrument Cluster and iRA Connected Car Technology with What3Words and Natural Voice Tech.
GNCAP rated Punch with 5-stars in adult safety ratings and with 4-stars in child occupant protection. As the first-ever sub-compact SUV in India to be rated with such high scores in safety, Punch has already beaten its competitors out of the race.
The SUV comes with dual airbags, anchor pretensioner safety belt for driver seats, ABS with EBD and Corner Stability Control and segment-first features such as Brake Sway Control.
The Brake Sway Control detects the tendency of instability during abrupt braking before the ABS kicks in to avoid vehicle swaying from the driving path.
Apart from these, Punch also comes with Front Fog Lamp with Cornering Function, Child Seat ISOFIX Anchor Points, Perimetric Alarm System, Reverse Parking Camera, Driver & Co-Driver Seat Belt Reminders, etc.
Power Options & Mileage
This SUV draws its power from a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron naturally aspirated petrol engine that gives out a power output of 86 PS and peak torque 113 Nm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT transmission along with the Traction Pro mode that aids in mild off-roading situations.
ARAI certified fuel efficiency for the manual transmission trims is 18.97 kmpl and for the AMT trims, the fuel efficiency is 18.82 kmpl.

Punch will be available as four variants with four different Personas called as Creative, Accomplished, Adventure and Pure, to appeal to the customers on a personal level in terms of their lifestyles.

The Adventure persona caters to the customers who have a streak of adventure and love for the great outdoors.
The Accomplished persona is for the city dweller who loves to make a style statement with a host of features to complement the customers’ active metro life.
Finally, the Creative persona is tailor-made for the digital natives who prefer information at their fingertips and is stacked with features to sync with this customer’s tech-savvy lifestyle.
Punch is going to be locking horns with Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Renault Kiger, Nissan’s Magnite as well as the upcoming Hyundai Casper and Citreon C3.
