Tata Punch is a promising micro-SUV cum hatchback that can make things uneasy for many players.
Tata has unveiled its next weapon in the hot compact SUV segment. Although, its look like an SUV with compact dimensions, it is essentially a tall-boy hatchback. Every carmaker comes with unique elements when they launch a new car in the auto industry.
So, here we will be focusing on the top features and key highlights in the Punch, which can be the unique selling points of this car.
Altroz Platform with Higher Ground Clearance
Tata Punch underpins Altroz’s ALFA-ARC (Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture) platform, which means solid build quality, and the car may also score 5-star ratings as Altroz when it gets tested. The platform also translates into a higher ground clearance of 187mm, which is quite good. Dimensionally, Tata Punch is 3,840mm in length, 1,800mm in width, 1,635mm in height, 2,450mm of wheelbase and 366L of boot capacity.
Tata Harrier has garnered critical appraise across the country with its muscular styling and solid road presence. The Punch looks quite similar to the Harrier with the same front profile featuring a split headlamp cluster, sleek LED DRLs, and signature tri-arrow grille design. Apart from this, there will be distinct 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and LED taillights.
Tata Punch comes with a dual-tone black and white cabin theme with a premium-looking dashboard. The car is equipped with every modern-day comfort feature, which can be seen in a car of this stature.
The feature list includes, Harman Kardon 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, auto fold ORVMs, rear wiper and washer, push engine start/stop switch, steering mounted controls and fast USB charging.
The seats are upholstered in premium fabric with a tri-arrow design, while the leather adorned steering and gear knob further adds a touch of richness. The car also sources a special feature from Altroz, which is the opening of the door at a 90-degree angle, making ingress and egress easy. The vehicle also comes with iRA connected car technology, which gives remote access to lights, horn, lock and offers location-based services, as well as voice command support.
Right from the basic variant, Tata Punch comes loaded with dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD with Brake Sway Control (vehicle instability check during sudden braking) and RPAS (Reverse Parking Assist System).
Move on to the higher variants, and you will also get unique features like TractionPro mode that works with AMT and helps the car come out of difficult driving conditions. Apart from this, the higher variants come equipped with front fog lamps, rear defogger, cruise control and a rearview camera.
Most Powerful Engine in the Segment
The Tata Punch packs a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine which is the most powerful in its class, beating even segments above cars like Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. It is the same engine working in Altroz, Tiago and Tigor, producing 86PS and 113Nm torque, coupled with either a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox.
The engine provides a mileage of around 19kmpl in Altroz, so it is expected to offer 16-17kmpl in Punch.
Four Variants and Seven Colours
The Tata Punch has been brilliantly packaged. The car is offered in four trims Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative, with seven different colour options. These include Orcus White, Atomic Orange, Daytona Grey, Meteor Bronze, Tropical Mist with black roofs, while Calypso Red and Tornado Blue with white roof.
Pricing, Competition and Launch
The Tata Punch is expected to be priced in the range of INR 5.50 and INR 8 lakh. Though its immediate rivals are Maruti Ignis and KUV100, a Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger buyer will seriously think about Tata Punch before making a purchase.
The pricing will be announced on October 20, with the deliveries beginning shortly after it.
