Tata Opens Bookings Unofficially For its Tiago CNG Pre-Launch

  • First CNG car from Tata, launch expected in November
  • Pre-launch Bookings open at some of the dealerships at Rs 11,000
  • Mid spec variants XT and XZ will be available with CNG
  • Standard model’s engine de-tuned for CNG

Following its successful launch of Punch in India, Tata is on a streak with the next unveiling of its first CNG powered car. Tata’s sporty-looking hatchback Tiago will be the first to receive a CNG kit. Tiago’s XT and XZ trims are expected to be launched with CNG coming November at the earliest. Deliveries will commence from December for Tiago CNG.

The bookings are still unofficial as only certain Tata dealerships across the country are accepting payments as of now. Tata Motors will be making an announcement regarding its first CNG car’s launch any day now. Pre-launch bookings range between Rs 11,000 – Rs 15,000 depending on the dealership.

Tiago’s standard model comes with a BS6 compliant, petrol-powered 1.2-litre engine with 86PS that drives the front wheels. CNG variant will also come with it, in a lower state of tune. Transmissions available will be a 5-speed manual gearbox. AMT option is not confirmed as of yet.

The current petrol-only version of the Tata Tiago is available in five variants, namely XE, XT, XZ, XZ+, and XZ+ dual-tone. If Tiago CNG is limited to the XZ and XT variants only, then the feature list includes a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering-mounted controls, a 4-speaker sound system, manual HVAC, remote keyless entry, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and a tyre puncture repair kit.

Anticipating a premium of Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 for the CNG version, Tata may yet make a run out of this, seeing as India’s roads aren’t strangers to CNG vehicles. Tiago CNG will be locking horns with other popular models with CNG such as WagonR, Dzire and Grand i10 Nios.
