Hot New Launches: Tata’s Tiago and Tigor with advanced iCNG Technology Now Available in India

Tata Motors launched CNG variants of Tiago and Tigor on 19th January 2021. Prices for Tata Tiago CNG start at ₹6.09 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Tata Tigor CNG prices start at ₹7.69 lakh (ex-showroom). Tata Tigor becomes the only car in India that is available in petrol, CNG, and electric variants.

Tata Motors has named the CNG line of cars as the iCNG models. The iCNG cars built based on the New Forever Philosophy:

  • ‘Intelligent’ technology features for complete comfort and convenience – direct start in CNG, single advance ECU, auto switchover between fuels

With the launch of Tigor CNG and Tiago CNG, Tata Motors becomes the second brand in India to manufacture cars with petrol, diesel, CNG, and electric powertrains.

Exterior and Interior

Both CNG models are similar to their petrol versions on the outside as well as the inside. The only major change is with the boot space that has been reduced due to the fitting of the CNG kits in the back. The Tiago’s boot space is now only 80 litres, while the Tigor’s boot space is reduced to 205 litres. They also get a new ‘i-CNG’ badge on the tailgate of both models.

The top-spec CNG trims have 14-inch wheels, projector headlamps with LED DRLS, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system complete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an eight-speaker Harman audio system, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable and foldable wing mirrors and other similar features from their petrol-based siblings.

Other than these, the top-spec Tigor CNG also comes equipped with rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps and a dual-tone roof option.

Tata claims of advanced high-quality stainless steel CNG kits that promise durability, leak detection technology and many other safety features. They include a single advanced ECU, direct start in CNG, and special nozzle for faster refuelling etc.

Safety Features: Dual airbags, ABS, rear parking camera and sensors, and corner stability control.


Both CNG models of Tiago and Tigor are run by 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Revotron petrol engines. In the petrol models, this engine generates 86hp and 113Nm of peak torque, while in CNG mode it generates 73hp and 95Nm of peak torque. This is the highest power of any CNG car in the country for now.

Range: 300 km on a full tank.

Tata Tiago CNG will lock horns with Hyundai Santro CNG, Maruti Wagon R CNG, and the new Celerio CNG. Tigor CNG will run against the Hyundai Aura CNG.
