Toyota Glanza – Spacious, Practical and Reliable Premium Hatch, Replica of Maruti Baleno

Let’s take a closer look at the design, features and price of the Toyota Glanza and how good of an offering it is for the consumers.

Toyota is a brand that is known for its reliability globally. It has made iconic cars that are loved by consumers. The global partnership between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki underlined that they can share the same models. This translated into the making of the Toyota Glanza. It is a premium hatchback that is based on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno with some subtle changes.

Toyota Glanza

Maruti Baleno is an already popular car in the Indian car market and with the arrival of Glanza, things have begun to stir a little. People familiar with the reliability and trust of Toyota cars have to an extent started preferring Toyota Glanza over Baleno. However, the Baleno still leads the count due to Maruti Suzuki’s dominance.

Let’s take a comprehensive look and find out how good Glanza actually is.

Exterior Design

Toyota Glanza

Toyota Glanza is identical to the Baleno in terms of design with some minimal changes. The front showcases a revised chrome grille with the LED headlights and fog lights being similar to the Maruti Baleno. The front fascia is identical to its counterpart but somehow looks like a Toyota more than a Maruti. It looks like a typical hatchback with a sleek and modern design.

Toyota Glanza

Coming to the sides, the Glanza looks identical to the Baleno. It has a simplistic design on the sides with chrome door handles and tinted windows. The 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels look modern and increase the road presence of the vehicle. The vehicle looks sophisticated and premium from the sides, accentuating the typical hatchback design.

Glanza Rear

Talking about the rear, it again is identical to the Baleno and showcases LED taillights. There is a thick chrome plate with the badging of the vehicle between the taillights which is a nice touch. Overall, the design of the Toyota Glanza is premium and pleasing to the eyes with a minimalistic design language that will appeal to most.

Interior and Features

If you have been inside the Baleno, then you have been inside the Glanza. The interior on both the cars is absolutely similar with no change. Toyota Glanza features an all-black cabin. There are hard plastics used all over the cabin, although, fit and finish levels are solid. The seating position is high and visibility is good all around. There is a 7-inch touchscreen that sits in the middle of the dashboard below the AC vents. The seats are wide and supportive with ample cushioning and are equipped with height adjustment settings. The instrument cluster is identical to the Baleno and features two analogue dials for the speedometer and tachometer, along with a digital multi-information display. However, an all-digital instrument would have been a nice addition in this segment and at this price point.

Glanza Interior

The feature list on this vehicle is again, identical to the Baleno Although, Toyota has been generous to include more than sufficient kit at this price range. The list includes automatic climate control, an accessory power outlet, seat lumbar support, height-adjustable driver seat, reverse camera with parking sensors, keyless entry, push-button start, smart access card entry, 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather steering wheel and an electronic multi-trip meter. Overall, the Glanza has well laid out interior with sufficient features and people won’t complain about spending long hours inside the cabin.

Performance and Ride Quality

Glanza Interior

Toyota Urban Cruiser is available with a petrol engine only which does the duty on the Maruti Baleno too. It is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor which produces 82 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. This engine is highly refined and is peppy to drive. The driving characteristics match with the Baleno and it feels zippy to drive in the city with adequate power. This engine is not underpowered and comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a CVT with mild-hybrid technology. This engine is frugal and comes with a claimed mileage figure of 19.56kmpl. The response from the steering is direct and feels light to use. However, lacks a bit of feel when compared to its rivals, the Tata Altroz and Ford Freestyle. Overall, the driveability from this engine is great with adequate power for the city as well as highway duties.

Glanza Boot

The rear seat experience of the Glanza is similar to the Baleno. There is ample kneeroom and headroom and you get a good view through the window. Although, under-thigh support may be an issue for taller passengers. It is a wide enough vehicle to seat three adults for short journeys in comfort. However, AC vents at the rear along with a charging socket should have been included at this price range. The ride quality is flat and planted. It can easily run over bad patches with minimal cabin intrusion. The Toyota Glanza can round off bumps and potholes with relative ease exuding confidence. Overall, the Glanza scores high in terms of performance and ride quality with no complaints.

Glanza Safety

Toyota Glanza is based on the Maruti Baleno and shares similar safety features. The safety kit includes brake assist, ABS with EBD, cruise control, anti-theft alarm, dual airbags, child safety locks, side and front impact beams, engine immobilizer, crash sensor, automatic headlamps, reverse camera with sensors, auto-dimming IRVM, ISOFIX child seat mounts and follow me home headlamps.
