Let’s take a closer look at the design, features, prices and other key details of Toyota Innova Crysta and know how good of an offering it is for the consumers.
Toyota is a brand that is known for its reliability globally. It has made iconic cars that are loved by consumers and one such vehicle is the Toyota Innova. It was a vehicle that was launched ahead of its time but it still shined on the Indian car market. People loved the concept of an affordable 7-seater with the reliability and brand name of Toyota. A few years ago, Toyota Innova Crysta was launched with a total revamp.
Toyota Innova was a popular and well-liked vehicle from the beginning, so it became easy for the Innova Crysta to impress people yet again. Just like its predecessor, it instantly became a huge hit and people started purchasing it in large numbers. The main rival to the Japanese MPV is the Maruti Ertiga which is priced a bit lower. Let’s take a comprehensive look and find out how good the Toyota Innova Crysta is for the consumers.
Starting with the exterior design, the Innova Crysta looks like a typical MPV. It gets a bold and large gloss-black grille upfront along with chrome garnishing on the sides. The headlamps are neatly integrated into the grille and get the LED projector setup along with DRLs. There is also a diffuser-type treatment down below which is gloss-black as well. The foglamps are LEDs along with the turn indicators covered in gloss-black surrounds.
The side profile of the Innova Crysta is pretty much the same, barring the new alloys. 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels are the only exciting element when looking at the vehicle from the side. The car looks well-proportioned and has a sleek design. It also gets chrome treatment on the ORVMs and integrated LED turn signals inside them, along with a shark-fin antenna.
Just like the side profile, the rear has remained more or less unchanged. It gets boomerang-shaped halogen taillights, though LED units would’ve been a great addition. Innova Crysta gets a rear spoiler with an integrated stop lamp. The design at the rear is unchanged and minimalistic. Overall, the Innova Crysta looks like a proper Japanese MPV with a purposeful yet modern design with some sophisticated elements which make the car stand out.
Interior and Features
Toyota Innova Crysta features an all-black interior with some chrome and wooden embellishments. The doors close with a strong ‘thud’ exuding confidence in the vehicle. The cabin is well-laid out and the fit and finish levels are decent. Innova’s cabin looks and feels premium and plush but hard plastics are used inside, which could have been more premium and better. There is a big wooden insert in the dashboard above the glovebox with a wooden rim on the steering wheel too. The front seats are supremely comfortable and probably the best in the segment. Driver’s seat gets an 8-way electrically adjustable seat which aids comfort further. There is an 8-inch touchscreen that sits in the middle above the automatic climate control buttons. The instrument cluster is similar to the outgoing vehicle, it features two analogue dials for the tachometer and speedometer with a multi-information digital display in the middle.
Toyota has equipped the Innova Crysta with all the bells and whistles you would expect at this price point. The list includes automatic climate control, rear AC vents, cruise control, seat lumbar support, keyless entry, push-button start, cooled glovebox, picnic tables at the rear, leather upholstery with leather-wrapped steering and gear knob, ambient lighting, wooden and silver inserts, 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and 8-way electrically adjustable seat for the driver. Overall, the interior of the Innova Crysta is well-built with high fit and finish levels, with ample features with a few misses. Toyota should include modern features such as a sunroof, wireless charging and a digital instrument cluster.
Performance and Ride Quality
Toyota Innova Crysta comes with two engine options, a diesel and a petrol motor. The diesel is a 2.4-litre unit that produces 148 bhp and 360 nm of torque. The petrol motor features a 2.7-litre unit producing 163 bhp and 245 nm of torque. Both of these powertrains have ample power at all times. The vehicle does not feel underpowered at any time and both motors feel refined with the petrol unit having lower NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness) levels. With the BS6 variant in motion, the NVH levels have improved on the diesel unit as well. The feedback from the steering is ample because it is a hydraulic unit and also, feels a bit heavy at low speeds.
Talking about the rear seats on the Innova, the second row gets captain seats which are identical to the front row seats in terms of design and comfort. They have ample under-thigh support and cushioning and this is what makes the Innova Crysta so popular among people who do long journeys often. However, the third row does not have enough space for adults and is best suited for kids. Adults can be accommodated for shorter journeys. The ride quality on this car is typical to an MPV, it is a bit lumpy but has that plushness. Only the sharpest potholes filter into the cabin, unsettling the car a bit. Apart from that, the ride quality is good and comfortable.
Innova Crysta comes with a host of safety features. The list includes brake assist, ABS with EBD, anti-theft alarm, 3-airbags, side and front impact beams, vehicle stability control system, engine immobilizer, crash sensor, rear camera with parking sensors, cruise control, ISOFIX child seat mounts and hill assist.

It can seat 7 people in comfort and has a capable engine to perform people carrying duties. However, it is a bit overpriced and with other MPVs available at an attractive price it might become difficult to undercut the competition.
