The two SUVs share most of the bits between them; which one should you pick? Scroll down for the answers.
Maruti Vitara Brezza has been consistently performing well in the market and leads the segment every alternate month. The Hyundai Venue has been pinning the Brezza quite often for the top spot. Drooled by the success of the sub-4m SUV segment, Toyota decided to try its luck in the segment with the help of Maruti Suzuki. It launched the Urban Cruiser in September last year.
When you go out shopping for a subcompact SUV, the ‘safest’ option which family and friends usually suggest is the Maruti. If you are in love with Maruti Vitara Brezza then you should also check out the latest kid on the block – the Toyota Urban Cruiser. It bears the same shell, chassis and engines.
Without making you go crazy, let’s find out how both the sub-4m SUVs stack-up against each other.
The big difference between the two is the amount of chrome used. Brezza gets more chrome while Urban Cruiser gets the signature Toyota grille upfront. Bumpers of the two are also different. They get different skid plates as well. Although same fog lamps are used in both the sub-4m SUVs, Toyota gets chrome lining on the fog lamps. Overall, Toyota has managed to give the Urban Cruiser a more Fortuner-esque stance, at least from the front.
On the sides too, the design matches exactly with blacked out side view mirrors, roof, A & B-pillars, same wheel size and alloy design. Both get a similar silver-finished roof, wheel arch gaps, ground clearance and whatnot.
At the rear, the same roots are evident with the same bumper, tail lamps, rear spoiler and reflectors. However, the different skid plate design separates the two. Of course, the badging of models are distinct on the same chrome strip above the number plate. Additionally, fonts on these chrome strips are different too. The Urban Cruiser gets fonts of the global Land Cruisers. Nice touch.
Orange paint with white roof and brown exterior paint are exclusive to the Urban Cruiser.
Since they share their chassis, the dimensions of the two subcompact SUVs are exactly the same.

Step in the cabin of either Brezza or Urban Cruiser; you won’t be able to differentiate unless you notice the company insignia on the steering. The Toyota gets a more premium feel to it with a dual-tone interior. It gets a black and brown combination of upholstery while the Maruti Suzuki gets all-black interiors.
Engine & Specifications
The Brezza and Urban Cruiser offer the same engine options and both are petrol-only vehicles. With the same engines, the power outputs, mileage and transmissions are all same. Both get hybrid options as well, paired with automatic gearboxes only.

With the same chassis and setup, the Toyota Urban Cruiser is exactly the same to drive as the Maruti Vitara Brezza. It feels planted and light. The steering is perfectly balanced it is neither too light nor too heavy. The engine loves revving up and responds nicely to shifts. The gearbox is very smooth and slick. Braking is also good with big disc brakes at the front, which inspire driving.
The Brezza is an excellent car to drive with no niggles; the Urban Cruiser capitalises on the positives of the Maruti SUV.
The features are exactly the same in both the SUVs. Some of the creature comfort features include dual LED projector headlamps with dual functioning LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, LED fog lamps, auto-dimming IRVM, rain-sensing wipers, auto AC, 16-inch dual-tone alloys and push-button start/stop.
