The Nissan GT-R was introduced 14 years ago, but Nissan continues to update it to stay relevant against more modern cars in its league. Nissan unveiled its updated 2022 GT-R last week along with two new special edition models. The two models are the Premium Edition T-Spec and Track Edition.
Nissan GT-R’s two special edition models have been built to Nismo standards and feature bespoke body panels, upgraded brakes, and two unique paint colours. First of all, both the T-spec and Track Edition models have been updated with carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon fiber rear spoilers, limited badging and unique engine covers.
A Premium Edition T-spec car also has an exclusive interior finish with satin suede accents for the dash and a quilted Alcantara finish for the seats. Additionally, the chassis received new Rays forged alloy wheels and expanded wheel rims, as well as lighter components beneath the suspension springs. The new Nismo-tuned models also have a carbon fibre roof and boot lid. They combine the latest safety technology with Nismo’s own tuning technology.
Moreover, they will get Midnight Purple and Millennium Jade paint options, paying homage to older generation GT-Rs that came with these colours. All Premium Edition T-spec models and Track Edition models will be available for purchase in mid-October, with only 100 units being produced.
Most of the mechanical components of the 2022 GT-R remain the same. Despite the upgrade, the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 continues to deliver 565 horsepower and 633 Nm of torque. Besides the standard version, there is a version with 591 hp. The engine is paired with a 6-speed DCT transmission with paddle shifters, sending power to all four wheels.
The new GT-R is only available in Japan, so it won’t arrive on our shore. Magnite has proven to be a modestly successful compact SUV for Nissan in India and has contributed greatly to bringing the brand back to life. However, Nissan does not plan to launch any new models any time soon.
