Volvo XC40 Recharge

As Volvo’s first all-electric EV in India, XC40 Recharge comes looking similar to its ICE-powered sibling. Built on Volvo’s CMA, it is powered by 78kWh battery running two 204hp electric motors for a combined output of 408hp and 660Nm. It has a range of more than 400km on the WLTP cycle, making it more affordable in the luxury EV segment.

Mercedes Benz EQS

The EQS is the EV equivalent of the S-Class and one of the quietest electric vehicles on sale. The stylish EQS built on the dedicated EVA (Electric Vehicle Architecture) platform has a drag coefficient of just 0.20. The EQS has a cab-forward profile, coupled with a heavily angled liftback-type tailgate. Other design features included are a black grille panel bordered with a pair of angular headlights that are joined by a horizontal light bar. It has also got frameless doors and similar flush handles as the S-class.

The EQS is fitted with a 107.8kWh battery that powers a single 334hp motor in the EQS 450 and dual motors with a combined 523hp in the EQS 580. It has a range of 770 km.

Audi Q4 e-tron

This will be the fourth electric model from Audi to be launched in India. The Q4 with its Standard and Sportback body styles was unveiled in April this year.

It is underpinned by the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform and will be built along with Volkswagen’s ID.4 in Zwickau, Germany instead of in an Audi factory. With an impressive stance from the bluff front end and noticeable proportions, Q4’s design is amazingly remarkable. The interior has a notable floating centre console.

Powertrain options for both the Q4 e-tron offered are both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options, with power ranging from 170hp to 299hp. Both models boast a driving range between 341km to 497km, depending on the variant.

BMW iX

The vehicle is built with a new aluminium spaceframe supporting an inner carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) structure. Its body is made out of a combination of aluminium, composite plastic and CFRP. Esthetically important design elements include the large blanked off grille, frameless doors, fixed B-pillars, and tapered glasshouse that give it a signature BMW look.

Interiors are spacious with a flat floor and use recycled plastics, including a new microfibre fabric for the seats. The cabin gets the instruments and infotainment where they are housed in a single, curved floating digital display panel and a new head-up display.

The centre console is absent in iX, and the new version of BMW’s iDrive rotary controller is placed between the seats. The dual motors generate 523hp from a 105.2kWh battery.

Hyundai Kona Electric Facelift

Kona EV facelift loses the grille panel that gives it a sleeker look along with a reprofiled bumper and redesigned LED headlights. It has a similar profile to its sibling model but also comes with new LED tail-lights and a new bumper at the rear.

The cabin gets some new features such as a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a new digital instrument cluster and connected car tech. The Kona Electric will continue to be powered by a 39.2kWh battery with a 136hp motor. There is also a 64kWh battery version abroad with a 204hp motor.

Kia EV6

Kia’s EV6 is a 5-seat, 4.7m long crossover based on Hyundai Group’s E-GMP skateboard platform. The EV6 will come as a CBU.

Exteriors have a clamshell bonnet with angular headlights that bookend a slim front grille. Also, it has LED daytime running headlights that form the car’s ‘Digital Tiger Face’, according to Kia. It has a swept-back windshield and a sloping C-pillar with wide rear haunches. There are two spoilers at the rear, with one mounted on the roof and another above the tail-lights.

The EV6 is offered in RWD and AWD layouts, with the top-spec GT variant producing 585hp.
