The name of the upcoming 7-seater Creta-based SUV has been revealed and it will be called ‘Alcazar’. The Hyundai Alcazar is expected to hit the showrooms around mid-2021. The premium 7-seater Hyundai SUV could don a host of new features above Creta’s feature list. Moreover, the powertrain choices will revolve around the 1.4L turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel, with both offering choice of manual and automatic gearbox transmissions. After its launch, Hyundai Alcazar will lock horns with the likes of MG Hector Plus (7-seater), Tata Safari, and Mahindra XUV500.
According to the press release the South Korean carmaker will stage the global debut of the three-row Alcazar in India. This year Hyundai also completes 25 years in the country and will also mark the debut of the awaited new 7-seater SUV. The premium SUV is expected to be priced economically and will foray into the overseas market after its India launch. Just as the recently launched Tata Safari rests on the Tata Harrier architecture, similarly Alcazar SUV will be heavily based on the Creta.
The new Hyundai SUV is projected to be taller, longer and wider to house the extra row of seats, however, the wheelbase may go unchanged. As seen in various spy shots, the camouflaged SUV receives fresh frontage with a differently designed grille, new design alloys, tweaked rear and wrap-around LED tail lamps. Moreover, the inside pics reveal Creta-inspired dash and rear layout, whereas new fabric upholstery and a distinctive interior theme along with the third-row addition forms the basis of the Alcazar.
The equipment list comprises of features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, fully digital instrument panel, air purifier, wireless charger, connected car technology, powered tailgate, etc. Likewise, safety attributes will consist of 6 airbags, ABS, parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, ESC and many more.
With competition heating up in the seven seater SUV segment, Hyundai may play smart by bestowing Alcazar with a price tag that is less than MG Hector Plus and Tata Safari. Therefore, it is expected to be priced a lakh over the existing Creta. The Creta falls between the price bracket of Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 17.53 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
