Upcoming MPVs in 2022: Launch Dates and Expected Prices

From Maruti to Kia, 2022 is awaiting a number of new and facelifted MPVs to be launched with exciting new features in India. This article highlights 4 of them that will be launched around the early to mid months of 2022.

1. Kia Carens

Expected Launch: Early 2022

Expected Price: Rs 16 lakh – 20 lakh (ex-showroom)

Kia introduced the Carens in mid-December of 2021. Carens is all ready to enter the market by 2022 March. With three-row seats and the structure of an MPV, Carens also borrows the styling elements from an SUV. Carens is built on a platform similar to that of Seltos and has a very powerful design on the exterior. It comes with LED head and tail lamps with a very smart looking profile.

The cabin comes equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, an eight-speaker Bose sound system, 64-colour ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, six airbags and more.

As far as the engine options are concerned, Carens will have 3 choices:

  • 1.5-litre petrol engine generating 115 hp
  • 1.5-litre diesel engine again producing 115 hp
  • 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engines churning out 140 hp

In the Indian car market, the Carens will be positioned between the Ertiga and the Innova Crysta.

Rivals: Hyundai Alcazar along with similarly priced SUVs in this segment.

2. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Facelift

Maruti Ertiga best CNG car in india

Expected Launch: Mid 2022

Expected Price: Rs 8.5 lakh – 11.5 lakh (ex-showroom)

The second-generation Maruti Suzuki Ertiga first launched in 2018 and is getting its long-overdue mid-life facelift. The test mules have been spotted on our roads earlier this year and the spy shots show minimal aesthetic changes.

One visible change is the newly designed grille resembling that on the latest Baleno. 2022 Ertiga is all set to receive interior updates too except for its cabin layout.

Under the hood, the Ertiga facelift will continue to house its 105hp, 1.5-litre petrol mild-hybrid engine, available with both manual and automatic gearbox options.

3. Maruti Suzuki XL6 Facelift

Expected Launch: Mid 2022

Expected Price: Rs 10 lakh – Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom)

Ertiga’s 6-seat version, the XL6 is also set to receive a facelift in 2022. We can expect it to be a bit more comprehensive than the facelift on Ertiga. The facelifted model also spotted during test drives, revealed tweaked designs on the grille and new bumpers along with newly designed wheels.

The spy shots obviously did not reveal any changes to the interiors, but there have been some rumours that the updated XL6 will be available in six and seven-seater configurations. XL6 will continue to run on its mild-hybrid 1.5-litre petrol engine from the pre facelifted version. It will also be offered with both a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

4. Renault Triber Turbo

Expected Launch: Early 2022

Expected Price: Rs 7.5 lakh – 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom)

Triber was well-received as an MPV in the Indian market though the engine performance required an upgrade from its current 1.0-litre petrol engine. Next year, the new Renault Triber Turbo will receive the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine similar to the SUVs like Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.

The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine puts out 100hp and improves the MPV’s performance, which will lift Triber’s appeal with regards to the value for money quotient. Triber’s variant line-up was renewed recently when Renault replaced the Triber’s top-spec RxZ trim with RxT+. So, the RxZ trim now faces a chance to regain its position on the variant line-up with updates and new features along with the turbo-petrol engine.
