Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace: 5 Important Things You Need To Know

What are the interesting elements of the new SUV from Volkswagen? Read on.

Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace Features

After showcasing the Tiguan AllSpace SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo, Volkswagen introduced the same earlier this month at Rs 33.12 lakh (ex-showroom). This is German car maker’s first-ever seven-seater SUV in the country. The Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace would be coming to India as CKDs (completely knocked-down). To keep the confusion at bay, VW has launched it in only a single fully-loaded version – the 4motion.

Without further ado, let’s have a look at the 5 things you should know about this brawny machine.

7-seater SUV, bigger than Tiguan

Naturally, the seven-seater Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace is bigger than the model it replaces, the five-seater Tiguan. To accommodate the third row, the overall length and wheelbase have gone up by 215 mm and 110 mm, respectively. Below is the dimension table to help you see the difference between the proportions.

Dimensions Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Volkswagen Tiguan Difference
Length 4701 mm 4486 mm 215 mm
Width 1839 mm 1839 mm No difference
Height 1674 mm 1672 mm 2 mm
Wheelbase 2787 mm 2677 mm 110 mm

Powerful petrol engine, no diesel

The prime reason for discontinuing the Tiguan SUV was its sole, diesel engine. Volkswagen has decided not to upgrade any of its diesel engines across its lineup to meet the BS6 emission norms, applicable on new vehicles from April 1, 2020. Thus, the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace skips the diesel and is available only with a petrol engine.

The 2.0-litre TSI turbo petrol motor generates 190 bhp of max power at 4200 rpm and peak torque of 320Nm at 1500 – 4100 rpm. The power is channelled to the wheels via a 7-speed DSG gearbox which comes with paddle shifters. It is only available in all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup.

Tricky third-row seat

The addition of third-row seat is a welcome move in the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace but it can seat two adults that too only for short rides. Long rides would be uncomfortable. The entry to the last row is also tricky and requires some twist and turn to finally reach the spot. The limited headroom (for taller passengers) and knee room makes them impractical for adults. They are best suited for kids. Alternately, you can keep them folded and enjoy the cavernous boot space of 700-litres.

Amazing feature list

Well, the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace gets an exhaustive feature list which includes first in segment three-zone climatronic AC. Other important features comprise of keyless entry, Vienna leather seats, active info display, panoramic sunroof, AC temperature controls in the second row, hands-free boot opening and powered driver’s seat and wing mirrors with memory function. Moreover, full-LED headlights with DRLs, heated front seats, start-stop system with generative braking, auto-dimming IRVMs and multiple drive mode selector are significant additions too.

Safest SUV in its category

When it comes to safety, the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace is armed with an array of protective equipment such as 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and ASR (Anti-slip regulation), front and rear parking sensors, park assist, reverse parking camera and tyre monitoring system. This makes it one of the safest cars in its category which includes Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq and Mahindra Alturas G4.
